Vanity Fair's Sarah Palin Profiler: 'The Worst Stuff Isn't Even In There'
The author of the blistering Vanity Fair profile on Sarah Palin says he wanted to write a positive piece, but was shocked by what he learned as he researched his story.

"The worst stuff isn't even in there," Michael Joseph Gross said on "Morning Joe" Thursday. "I couldn't believe these stories either when I first heard them, and I started this story with a prejudice in her favor. I have a lot in common with this woman. I'm a small-town person, I'm a Christian, I think that a lot of her criticisms of the media actually have something to them. And I think she got a bum ride, but everybody close to her tells the same story."

In the profile, Gross paints Palin as an abusive, retaliatory figure with an extreme ability to lie.

"This is a person for whom there is no topic too small to lie about," he said. "She lies about everything."

1. She does lie about everything.
I remember 30 seconds into watching her first "speech" at the convention in '08, I pegged her as a habitual liar and my opinion has never wavered. The next day, when my mother asked me what I thought of her I replied, "She's a real pig of a woman." My mother seemed shocked (I think she was impressed by Palin). The following day Obama made his "lipstick on a pig" comment. But where he was talking about policy, I was definitely referring to her. And my opinion there hasn't wavered, either.

2. Reminds me of that old saying: The bigger they come, the harder they fall.
She will come to a very bad end...

9. I don't know, I just have a "feeling" about her...that something bad will happen.
I don't particularly wish her ill, but often people like her attract bad things in their lives by the way that they live their lives...just my "sixth sense" kicking in...

4. Chronic liar. I've know two in my
life before Sarah Palin. I recognized her for what she was immediately.

6. I think you're right.
Pathological liars are quite rare, but I too had one in my life for awhile, who lived with me and became the mother of my offspring. In her case, she couldn't tell the truth even if the truth would be the story that would best get her out of trouble. It's method acting. They believe the "truthiness" of what they're saying while they're saying it, and have their minds so successfully compartmentalized that the fact that what they're saying right now directly contradicts what they said another time doesn't even register with them. They feel like they're speaking the "truth" and firmly and unshakably believe themselves.

I don't know if Sarah Palin is "one of those," but she definitely fits the profile if my experience is any judge.

7. Once you have encountered one
you never forget it. Deep down inside they must be the most miserable people on earth.

8. my god! It sounds like you've just described my husband's ex wife!!!
particularly the part:.....have their minds so successfully compartmentalized that the fact that what they're saying right now directly contradicts what they said another time doesn't even register with them.

With her, she will openly contradict herself in the course of the same conversation!!! And when you call her on it she goes into a dead stare finally ending in a segue akin to, "how 'bout those Broncos!" All this time I just figured she was nuts.
