The tidal wave of coverage surrounding Ronald Reagan's passing has left me a tad nostalgic. No, not for my bygone days as a Republican -- but for the time following my graduation from Cambridge University when I had the pleasure of spending some time with the British philosopher Isaiah Berlin.
Let me explain the connection: Berlin famously divided mankind into hedgehogs and foxes, taking his cue from a line in an ancient Greek poem by Archilochus: "The fox knows many things, but the hedgehog knows one big thing."
And whatever else he was, Ronald Reagan was certainly the ultimate political hedgehog. More on this in a moment.
