Dems to voters: You may hate us, but GOP is worse
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_desperate_democrats

With just six weeks to avoid a possible election catastrophe, Democrats are trying to limit the damage with a closing argument that's more plea than platform: We know you voters are furious with us, but just let us explain why the Republicans would be worse.

The strategy requires an autumn influx of voters willing to view the election as a choice between two imperfect parties — and imperfect candidates on each ballot line — rather than as a chance to slap the Washington establishment that the public seems to dislike so deeply.

(snip)
Democratic candidates want to convince these voters that no matter how much they hate the status quo, they would be worse off under a Republican Party that hasn't learned from its mistakes and is lurching ever harder to the right.

(snip)
Veteran Democratic consultant Chris Kofinis was drafting a memo Friday urging candidates and party officials to boost their efforts to portray the GOP as a party hijacked by extremists with unorthodox ideas such as dismantling Social Security. Democratic candidates should woo two crucial groups — persuadable independents and disillusioned liberals — by highlighting the threat of "a radical, extreme fringe that will control and does control the Republican Party," Kofinis said in an interview.

8. Pathetic!
It's pretty bad when you have to resort to this kind of plea to get votes. When are you guys going to WAKE UP! We've been telling you for a long time that we are not pleased with what you are doing. Instead of listening to us we are told to shut up and sit down. We are ridiculed and pretty much told to go away and now you want us to vote for you because the other side is worse. Brilliant Strategy! NOT Can we please get some new leadership!

10. the Baggers' main purpose is probably to keep us Dem peons in line
Edited on Sat Sep-18-10 02:09 PM by MisterP
the WH wouldn't be getting away with all the crap that it does were it not for the Tea Partiers producing a circle-the-wagons effect

how many more Dems would be "Leftbaggers" lambasting mandates and no PO if there weren't violent, ugly protesters and demented Cucinellis opposing it? the reasoning goes that if people like THAT are against the bill, it must be wonderful

another purpose is to make sure that we don't do to non-Teabag conservatives the one thing that they can't stand: boycott them electorally. thus any throw-granny-out-on-the-street-to-benefit-Citibank Dem can simply point to their Teabag "opponent" and say, "THIS is who will take over if you DARE withhold the votes and cash that you owe me." To sneering elitists like the Establishment Dems, the Baggers are the can of pennies, and we voters are the curs who are property of the Establishment.

the other components of the loyal-literally-no-matter-what clique are 1) perpetual sycophants, for whom any one with the Circle D after their name shits rainbows (though their failures are never THEIR fault, of course) and 2) the delusional, who literally believe that there's peace in Iraq, that Obama kicked bankster and insurer ass, that unemployment is at 0.03%, and that anyone who disagrees is a nitpicker or a Kremlin Koch Industries plant
