Congress' sick game: Politics skunks health care bill for Ground Zero workers again

The Forgotten Victims of 9/11 have every right to be outraged at game-playing at their expense by House Democratic leaders.

That's because they had every reason to take Reps. Carolyn Maloney and Jerry Nadler at their word when they "announced" two weeks ago that Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer "will" put their health care and compensation bill up for a vote this week.

Maloney and Nadler brought firefighters, cops and ailing construction workers to a press conference hailing the momentous occasion. The impending victory was greeted with great cheers.

The vote was supposed to take place today. It's not happening.

The behind-the-scenes story is murky, seeing as how Maloney, Nadler and aides are far less vocal today than on Sept. 8. In fact, they've pretty much gone mute.
