Christianne Amanpour on "This Week" asked the panel what does the "Tea party" mean in terms of programs and legislation, if they get elected. "What does it mean?". It was a good question she asked. But nobody gave her a straight, informative answer.
Tom Ross, GOP party chairman of Delaware, gave a short speech about how "the people" are
afraid of "the direction this country is going" whether it's health care or taxes...
I thought Amanpour should have asked him, with regard to health care at least, what did Ross mean. The Health Care reform bill that was passed was composed largely of Republican ideas. The individual mandate -- a Republican idea, Insurance exchanges - a Repblican idea. So what was Ross talking about when he says a (change) in direction this country is taking, with regard to healthcare specifically? The HCR bill is largely composed of Republican ideas. so what (new) direction is he talking about, or are the Tea-Partiers talking about?
The use of "afraid" insinuates people actually have something to be afraid of. Is this the old "Obama as Bolshevik" signage being chanted as a meme? If "This Week" is a news show, if Amanpuor is a legitimate journalist, insinuations and 'code-words' should not be tolerated. Those who use them should have to frame a real, explicit argument rather than uttering spookie "something wicked this way comes" incantations. IF you've got a point to make then make it. And then let it be examined and be subject to question and criticism by others.
I thought Amanpour should have asked him for some clarification instead of allowing him to get by with campaign-sign sound-bites without having to explain his insinuations. Is "This Week" a news show or just a platform for Republicans to throw out campaign sound-bites laden with buzz-words and insinuations.
Come on Ms. Amanpour you're better than this.
