Alien ambassador story too good to be true
Updated September 28, 2010 13:49:59

For about 48 hours a little known Malaysian astrophysicist made international headlines with newspaper claims that the United Nations had or was going to appoint her as earth's official first contact for aliens.

The story first carried by Britain's Sunday Times newspaper sounded plausable as Datuk Dr Mazlan Othman currently head's the UN's Office for Outer Space Affairs, the United Nations office responsible for promoting international cooperation in the peaceful uses of outer space ...

WERDEN: As each hour passed without any official reponse from the UN or its Office for Outer Space Affairs, the Sunday Times report claiming the UN was appointing an alien ambassador was looking more like a hoax. Even the Director of Australia's Centre for Astrobiology, Professor Malcolm Walter felt the story was a little way out ...

That leaves the world without any official alien ambassador, but then again if science fiction is any guide diplomacy may be of very little help once first contact is finally made.

1. Diplomacy will be useless.
Slim Whitman records may have a chance at saving us.

2. Well, Harrison Ford may be available...
But his tact and diplomacy may leave something to be desired...

talk to me, come see me yourself. Don't
send one of these twerps."
