Democrats who disagree with the way the president has handled some policy decisions are not like tea party members. They are simply democrats who disagree with the way the president has handled some policy decisions.

I think it would be worth his while to listen (behind closed doors - and perhaps he is...) to some of his democratic detractors and find out what it would take to win them over. Then he could make a concerted effort to attempt to address some of those concerns. He wouldn't have time to do anything big...but he does have time to show he's interested in a new direction.
Until that happens, I think it would be wise to at least pretend as if he's quite concerned about hearing what democratic voters have to say.
I think it is unwise to suggest that voters are whining. This is the job he asked for. He also asked for voters to keep his feet to the fire. Between some of his comments, Biden's comments, and Gibbs...seriously, they sound like the whiners. It comes across as somewhat cavalier. Kind of like..."let them eat cake. Get over it."
Now, truly, for some voters the president could do anything and they would love him. Bush had supporters like that as well. I was forever fascinated with them. But, I think for most Americans, if you're a critical thinker, you're not going to agree with everything a president does. He loses nothing in pursuing his base. And, whether he likes it or not, unhappy democrats are still a part of a base he needs. And if they want to sit out a vote in protest...(I wouldn't), then they have that right to stand on principle. I'll unhappily support that right.
My advice would be that the White House stop whining. They're not worried about their health care. They're not wondering whether or not their homes will be foreclosed on, or whether or not their taxes will increase, or if their unemployment will run out.
They're not worried about feeding their children, paying college tuition, or just keeping the lights on. Working class Americans have these things to worry about every day. Miss a few days with a sick child in this economy, and you're fired...if you were fortunate enough to have a job in the first place.
If they're sick of hearing about it...they're the ones that need to buck up.
Don't become a doctor, if you don't like dealing with sick people. Don't head to the White House, if you don't want to hear about the concerns of Americans.
