Rich Iott Defends Nazis He Dresses Up As: 'They Were Doing What They Thought Was Right'
Does Ohio Congressional candidate Rich Iott not understand the distinction between a soldier in the Wehrmacht and a soldier in the Waffen SS? Do they reserve the uniforms for the Einsatzgruppen for the really special guys in his organization? Does any of it really matter? Every time he opens his mouth he reveals a little more of his true self and digs himself in a little deeper.

4. They started a world war that resulted in approximately 50 million deaths,
25 million Russians alone. Along with approximately 5 million Jews they murdered another 5 million trade unionists, dissident Christians, communist party members, Gypsies (Roma), and anyone else who was convenient to kill.

BUT .................. their INTENTIONS were good.

It's really nice outside today. Good weather for invading Poland.

3. Actually, Iott has started to go from funny to scary.
Do we really have to give a national stage to a Nazi apologist?

Has anyone asked him if he believes that the Holocaust was really as bad as everyone says? I'd be curious.

6. like all Konservatives, they say they are for 'smaller government' but when they get power they
have an innate preference for totalitarian government as long as it involves THEM enforcing their ideas of how people should live. Their preference for totalitarian government issues naturally from their narrow minded certitude that there is always one 'right' answer for all questions and that THEY are in sole possession of that answer.

It naturally follows that since THEY have the right answers, they are permitted to compel others to abide by these truths ....for their own good, of course.

7. Hauling human beings by train to death camps --
Why WOULDN'T they think that they were doing what was right?

We progressives just can't deal with Republican revisionist history! We're biased! We're hot-headed liberals!

While Rich Iott brings the serene lessons of history to the world while bonding with his son all in one swoop.

8. Dude, the fact that they thought it was right is the problem.
Why would he not get that?

Once this whole Nazi reenactment thing came to light, his job should have been simple - say you were doing it as a history lesson or something, and whatever you do, don't say anything that remotely defends Nazism or Nazis. Maybe even condemn Nazism, is that too much to ask? Evidently, it is.

11. That's because the last one to do such
was in the 1930s....Yes there were a couple that did... and did not win a seat anywhere.

In fact the most famous figure to defend them was Charles Lindbergh who even got a medal from Hitler in '38.

10. As I said this morning a vanilla flavor
Edited on Tue Oct-12-10 11:21 PM by nadinbrzezinski
Wermacht unit would bother me not as much... depending on the group. A unit that was engaged in war crimes, on the other hand...

Yes we run a German Unit, vanilla flavor, in games of flames of War.( I have to paint more of them in fact, not enough PBI's), but reality is that there is a reason they remain so damn generic while the American and Russian troops have even actual historic markings on them.

Of course by the end of WW II, that vanilla flavor unit is accurate... for two reasons.

1.- Some SS units tried to hide, I wonder why.

2.- After the coup attempt the Wermacht lost all independence and units had their markings taken away from them.
