Alan Grayson debates himself at Tiger Bay!
Edited on Fri Oct-22-10 08:20 PM by elleng
U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Orlando, put on a one-man show at Friday's Tiger Bay Club congressional debate.

The podium for his opponent, former state Sen. Dan Webster, stood empty – Webster declined the invite -- so Grayson fielded questions from the audience for nearly an hour.

Grayson was mostly at ease, and even coaxed snickers by sprinkling self-deprecating jokes amid his list of accomplishments.

After noting Webster's absence, Grayson deadpanned, "That leaves me to debate my most formidable opponent: That would be me."

You just speculating? You're in OH, aren't you?

And I'd settle for Senator, after rubio+ FAIL miserably, and everyone's returned to their/our senses. (Optimistic, maybe.)

12. ya, we are trying to keep our Governor....
ted strickland, guess there is not much hope of getting the senate seat with lee fisher, you know the dems flushed the best candidate (Jennifer Brunner)for the job by not supporting her. I guess we are all nervous, but I am starting to feel it is all going to blow up on the fricking pukes, their plan for this cycle is like a house of cards.

btw...check this post out:

13. Saw that, but questionable, legal theory-wise, imo.

'for perjuring during his Senate hearings, where he said he wouldn't be a judicial activist, and he wouldn't overturn precedents."'

Kind of like 'I'll know it when I see it.' Not exactly impeachable, imo.

Good luck with Strickland. KASICH??? OMG!

7. Its not a good sign for him
when his opponent challenging him for the seat refuses to debate. Its a sign thats hes trailing and his opponent knows it. I wish he didn't run that awful ad. Its like everything went south after it started playing.

I hope he still wins, cos i think hes the best congressman we have. Maybe if he survives this, we can nominate him Speaker :)

8. It wasn't awful
The ad did not misrepresent Webster's beliefs. In the original tape, Webster said "That's in the Bible" (that women should submit to their husbands). Then he said, "wives can pray for that." If he didn't believe women should be submissive, why would he say they can pray that? Factcheck also misrepresented Bill Gothard's institute, failing to identify it as extremist.

11. But the reaction?
People didn't expect Grayson to go so negative?

14. He just calls it like he sees it
Grayson doesn't pretend something is right for the sake of political correctness, like a war based on lies, or in this case, religious extremism.

15. I understand that, and admire him for it..
But what of the electorate? Impressions/info? The 'spin' makes it all negative.

16. Unfortunately, many people are fooled by the spin
Even some Democrats!

Grayson makes a lot of people and the media nervous with his truth telling, so they are out to destroy him. I don't think an honest man stands a chance in politics. It's a shame, because Grayson has so much to offer.
