What to buy the President for Christmas

Jim Shea's column in today's Hartford Courant had me chuckling

<snip> I know he likes to play basketball, so I thought he might be able to use a new athletic supporter. Given the games they play in Washington, he could probably get a lot of wear out of this off the court as well.

But then after what happened with the Bush tax cuts issue, I realized that he not only doesn't need a new athletic supporter, he doesn't need one at all. Fortunately, I hadn't gotten Nancy Pelosi anything yet, so I might give one to her instead.

That still leaves me with the problem of buying Obama something. One thing I've been considering is a helmet. I know they said he got a busted lip in that basketball game over Thanksgiving, but given the tax-cut deal he cut with Republicans, I think it's apparent that he sustained a concussion, too.

Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell was easy. I just got him a new canary. Seeing his expression in the wake of the tax-cut deal, it was obvious he had swallowed the one he had.<snip>
