WikiLeaks sparks push for tighter controls.

The United Nations is considering whether to set up an inter-governmental working group to harmonise global efforts by policy makers to regulate the internet.

Establishment of such a group has the backing of several countries, spearheaded by Brazil.

At a meeting in New York on Wednesday, representatives from Brazil called for an international body made up of Government representatives that would to attempt to create global standards for policing the internet - specifically in reaction to challenges such as WikiLeaks.

2. Be careful of what you wish for ...
you might get it.

The last thing we need right now is any violence from the far right. (Or from the far left, for that matter.)

6. Like UN soldiers causing thousands of death from cholera in Haiti.
Funny how that story doesn't really make it very far.

7. ...or how about just telling the truth
and being the same person in public as in private, and ending secret wars and backstabbing allies and enemies alike, and so on. Any governance that must be conducted in secrecy is governance leaning toward tyranny, away from liberty, and increasing the misery of many for the benefit of few.
