Intel Officier Who Teaches Torture Comments on Abu Ghraib
"Jack is a seasoned U.S. military-intelligence officer who has personally taught the black arts of interrogation to hundreds of agents -- When Jack saw the photos from Baghdad's Abu Ghraib prison last month, he was disgusted. But not like the rest of us.

...He got in touch with me after reading articles I had written about the prison atrocities...

He took offence with this: While the MPs seemed to have a rough knowledge of some of the physical methods in those manuals, he said, they obviously had missed the whole point...."

"Hoods have multiple uses -- keeps the prisoner quiet, keeps him from planning an escape route or looking to see which guard isn't watching his gun . . . and it's also disorienting."

Yeah, great. What fun.

geez, that sounds like the dialogue in my torture flick:

2. You're right about the tea party,
He talks about the failings of torurers at the prison as if he were talkng about a sloppy muffler job. He seems a tad too detached a la Silence of the Lambs.

3. I think you misread the article...

Jack was saying there was NO reason to use these techniques on 97% of the prisoners, and certainly NOT at Abu Ghraib. It's not that the torturers were sloppy, but that they shouldn't even have been using those techniques AT ALL, at least not there on that number of prisoners for no apparent reasons or certainly not for the right reason(gathering intelligence quickly).
