10. Well, with the repubs controlling the house ... |
|
who will threaten investigating the pricing? I noticed that the price of gasoline jumped right after the 2010 election, and has been rising since (with minor, "feel-good" drops of a few pennies every now and then ...)
I also remember the "liberally-biased media" falling all over itself trying to point out that the $4/gallon gas was due to "many factors", like demand and "speculation" ...
There's already been a LTTE in the Akron Beacon Journal trying to paint Obama as the cause of the rising in oil prices (which, ironically, the writer pointed out the $4/gallon occurred under Pelosi ... doesn't it then stand that the new rise in gas prices would fall to Boner???)

3. There goes any pretense that the economy might improve this year |
|
High gas prices triggered the economic crisis, now the speculators will do even more damage.

4. Newsflash: gas in the USA has been cheap for years... |
|
... compare it to other western countries. For example, in BC it's around $4.50/gallon, and has been for ages.

6. When I was in England in 2007, the price was equivalent to $7.00 a gallon |
|
but even though they are said to have the worst train system in Europe, they still have awfully good train service and excellent wide area bus service by U.S. standards.

12. They're not as good as Japanese trains, and the ticket pricing scheme is crazy, |
|
like airline pricing.
On my last trip, I planned to fly in two days early for a conference in Bath, spend the extra time in London, and buy a £9 advance ticket from Paddington to Bath (as per the British Rail website).
However, I was caught up in the great passport renewal fiasco, and I had to delay my trip, so that I arrived in the UK on the morning of the day that the opening reception was to take place. I therefore had to buy a same day ticket to Bath--at £46 (ouch!).
Still, the trains ran every hour, and they were well patronized. In two trips to the UK, I never traveled on a train that was less than 75% full, and some were standing room only.

14. Actually, there's no British Rail anymore... |
|
... the Tories privatized the railways about 15 years ago (a big mistake in my opinion). The network you traveled on would have been "First Great Western".

8. this will certainly help people pay for $4.00 a gallon gas. All I am saying is it's coming and |
|
it will sink the economy... unless we try to do something about it. I know however, that people are long on complaining but short on embracing solutions or ways to cope with problems.

people will be spending their SS tax cut on? The United States government will borrow that money and it will end up right in the pockets of the oil companies. Nice deal.
But as far as complaining, it's true to no small extent. Start with the fact that most people could use less gas if they made any effort at all. Sales of gas guzzlers, which took a brief decline back when gas prices spiked before, went right back up again when gas went down.

18. Meaning that it will go somewhere between $3 and $3.50 |
|
and the public will breathe a sigh of relief that it did not go to $3.75. This is the same tune we have heard since the 1970's..when gas was going to go to $1.00 per gallon. It's just part of the slow squeeze on the working class.
