US Airforce: Questionable artwork on aircraft?
Just found the following image on airliners.net, a website for planespotters and photographers.
It shows the artwork on a US Airforce Hercules parked at the National Museum of the US Air Force in Ohio.

It served as a gunship during Operation Desert Storm according to one photographer.
It depicts Azrael, the Islamic Angel of Death. The camels are presumably kills?

While the US Government tells people they are not at war with Islam, this thing is parked in a museum open to the public.

2. The artwork cannot possibly be any more offensive than the aircraft itself.
Nor the offensive war in which it's being used.

It is, after all, a "crusade" according to one U.S. president.

3. 'Nose Art' Is What It Is, Sir
People put up things that make them feel invincible and deadly, or demonstrate that regardless of the strain they are under, they remain susceptible to pulchritude....

4. Let's be up front about what we do, don't sugar coat it.
I'm sure that those who were killed by this plane, and their survivors, would be much mellower about the whole thing if this plane had borne artwork of unicorns and teddy bears.

9. Oh i don't know..
The Islamic Angel of Death painted on this aircraft?

The person i was replying to obviously thought it did not mean anything to anyone except the victims families.

I fully expected a lot of people here to think it's OK though.

10. The nose art that was on the plane was there during combat.
Painting it over would not un-fire the cannon rounds that it fired.

And since it shows Azrael, the Islamic angel of death, attacking the purported bad guys, it's actually saying something very different than if it showed Jesus, or a crusader, attacking them.

8. I think it shows how aware they were
that the people they killed were of no threat to the U.S.
