DeLay: Fill the crowd at Congressional town halls with Texans carrying guns

Tom DeLay says he knows the best way to deal with a potential killer at a congressional town hall meeting: fill the crowd with Texans carrying concealed weapons. DeLay was on Chris Matthews' show Hardball today on MSNBC. The former House majority leader defended himself against his conviction on money-laundering charges. He was sentenced Monday to three years in prison and the case is on appeal.

In the wake of the shooting in Arizona that left several people dead and a congresswoman in critical condition in the hospital, Matthews asked DeLay about gun control. DeLay said he has no problem with Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert's suggestion that members of Congress should be allowed to carry guns onto the floor of the House and Senate. And he said he'd liked to have seen a few more guns in the crowd in Arizona when a deranged man started shooting a semiautomatic pistol.

"If I had a town meeting and was still in Congress, I'd invite all the Texans who have a concealed weapons license to my town meeting and I'd advertise it. Because the person who wanted to come shoot me would have to think once again about committing suicide walking into my town hall meeting."

1. What a moronic statement.
They just interviewed the man who almost pulled a concealed weapon and decided not to. First, he almost was going to shoot a guy helping out because he looked like he wasn't. Then he said if he had drawn a gun, someone else might have thought he was a gunman and shot him. It might have been a shootout with even more innocent people being killed and wounded.

5. I saw that guy interviewed the other day. What a shame it
would have been if he had shot the man who was holding the gun that had been taken from the actual shooter

11. Don Seigleman was convicted of trumped up charges and
shackled in the court room after he was sentenced. Tom DeLay is on MSNBC. I don't have a TV just because of situations like this.It is mind boggling that WE don't realize there is no justice system in the US. And there is no fair MSM. Fascists.

13. Delay is a convict.
The only reason he's not in jail is because of his appeal. He's been tried a convicted. The judge should have sent him to jail.

6. Reminds me of that "All in the Family" episode...
...when Archie suggested arming every passenger on an airliner with guns to dissuade potential skyjackers.

9. what an idiot...he would bet his life on it.
In the 2 or 3 seconds it takes you to go for your concealed weapon a gunman could....and in the AZ cased did...unloaded 30 rounds into the croud....that concealed cary would only have prevented him from reloading at best...and if there were several in the crowd armed they might even kill more people as they all tried to be hero's on that day.
