Tea Party demands Tennessee school curriculum erase minority experience
The Tea Party war on the 20th century continues in Tennessee, where yesterday a group of teabaggers presented the state legislature a list of demands for the new legislative session. Their aim is "to compel the teaching of students in Tennessee the truth regarding the history of our nation and the nature of its government.”

What “truth” do these conservative activists demand be taught? Apparently it doesn’t involve portrayals of the “minority experience” or anything else that might taint their mythical hagiographies of the Founding Fathers. At a press conference, the activists said they want a focus on the “progress” the Founders and “the majority of citizens” made, to the exclusion of supposedly “made-up criticism” about slavery and the treatment of Native Americans:

The material calls for lawmakers to amend state laws governing school curriculums, and for textbook selection criteria to say that “No portrayal of minority experience in the history which actually occurred shall obscure the experience or contributions of the Founding Fathers, or the majority of citizens, including those who reached positions of leadership.”

Fayette County attorney Hal Rounds, the group’s lead spokesman during the news conference, said the group wants to address “an awful lot of made-up criticism about, for instance, the founders intruding on the Indians or having slaves or being hypocrites in one way or another.

4. Isn't this just the sort of government intrusion that they decry?
They really think the government should be telling historians what to record, or history teachers what facts to teach? That's what the Soviet Union did and they were a bunch of communists.

8. I hate revisionism. I wonder if the Russians have any idea what their
real history was after years of this under the USSR? They even erased Lenin.

oooh! I can't be a part of a nation that isn't a fantasy starring losers like ME!!

And I am AMAZED how people who don't want government interference in their pathetic little lives want government to interfere in the lives of the rest of us.

11. Tennessee is no longer part of the United States.
We have not been since 2008 when the Rethugs stole our state legislature on unverifiable voting machines that they insisted be used in that election, despite a law declaring that our elections should be able to be verified. Rethugs voted for that law also, BUT ONLY by demanding that its implementation be delayed until 2010.

Then when, despite all polling and historical evidence to the contrary, Rethugs took contol of our legislature for the first time since Reconstruction, they announced that one of their three top legislative priorities was to repeal that law. The repeal was blocked, but its implementation was again delayed until 2012.

In the 2010 elections, Rethugs stole another 14 legislative seats (even they predicted a pick-up of only 2-3 seats), replacing long-term moderate to conservative rural Democrats with overt racists, pug-ugly jackals and Hooters girls (really).

Don't ask who the bell tolls for, Tennessee. It tolls for thee.

12. This is perfectly illustrative
of the moral bankruptcy that is at the core of the Tea Party.
