Ryan on healthcare reform: light on plans, even lighter on truth
by Joan McCarter

In a rebuttal remarkable for it's lack of any kind of policy suggestion, spending cuts specifics, or plan of any kind, there was this on healthcare reform from Paul Ryan (from his speech as prepared):

Then the President and his party made matters even worse, by creating a new open-ended health care entitlement.

What we already know about the President’s health care law is this: Costs are going up, premiums are rising, and millions of people will lose the coverage they currently have. Job creation is being stifled by all of its taxes, penalties, mandates and fees.

Businesses and unions from around the country are asking the Obama Administration for waivers from the mandates. Washington should not be in the business of picking winners and losers. The President mentioned the need for regulatory reform to ease the burden on American businesses. We agree – and we think his health care law would be a great place to start.

(snip)
Health care spending is driving the explosive growth of our debt. And the President’s law is accelerating our country toward bankruptcy.

That's just the second--and only one of five--use of the word "jobs" by Rep. Ryan. And of course, it's lie. The program is not an entitlement, and millions of people will not lose their jobs. And as for it being job-killing? Politifact says that's a lie. False. Not true. Along with the assertion that they will work on that whole "replace" thing.

What he did get right is that healthcare spending is driving growth in our debt. What he left out is that repealing the Affordable Care Act would add $320 billion to the deficit. Of course, since that number comes from the non-partisan, apolitical official budget organ the Congressional Budget Office, it's "opinion" doesn't count for the GOP.

2. What did you expect from a Republican? The ONLY time they will ever
consider telling the truth is if it will return a bigger benefit than telling a lie.

3. and tort reform??
has anyone seen a poor doctor? Has anyone ever had the poor fortune to try to sue a doc? It's very hard..and expensive. I'm sure there are frivolous lawsuits but what about the legit suits? Is getting the wrong leg cut off worth a cap of $250K or so with half of that going to attorney fees? Let's hope that one of the repugs never needs to sue one; actually shouldn't be allowed to sue for medical malpractice after fighting so hard to bow down to the rich medical establishment. And they got Obama to go along with it...grrrrrr
