I Heard A B-2 Pilot Say His Loyalty To The "Lord's Army" Trumps His Air Force Oath
The punchline to my story title? - Unless the Air Force considers the Military Religious Freedom Fundation's objections and reconsiders the invitation, one of that pilot's colleagues will be the keynote speaker at the US Air Force's February 10th National Prayer Luncheon at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. The USAFA suggests the event is modeled after the National Prayer Breakfast, a yearly event run by the Washington neo-fundamentalist group The Fellowship. First, a bit on The Fellowship, then I'll get to the B-2 "Stealth" bomber pilot.

Longtime Fellowship head Douglas Coe has likened his group to "the mafia" and encouraged Christians to follow Jesus with the same level of zeal as young Chinese Red Guard cadres who, during Mao Tse Tung's Cultural Revolution, were willing to chop off the heads of their own mothers and fathers, for the communist cause (here's the footage of Mr. Coe saying that, during a 1989 speech in Colorado Springs.) Another charming aspect of the Fellowship concerns journalist Jeff Sharlet's identification of Fellowship Uganda member David Bahati as principle author and legislative backer of Uganda's so-called "Kill the gays bill" which Sharlet has characterized as "possibly genocidal."

But back to the B-2 Stealth Bomber pilot. Here's the background:
Three years ago, on a beautiful sunny late Saturday morning on May 27th, 2007, at a Baptist gathering co-hosted by Task Force Patriot, in an amphitheater in the Georgia woods, amidst a group of little more than a hundred people, I heard (and recorded) one of the United States Air Force's elite B-2 bomber pilots state,

"I'm going to have to separate myself from the service of this nation if it's required in order to propagate the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. I'm not going to disregard my responsibilities. But if there ever comes a time when there is a priority to be made, a decision to be made, it must always rest in the work of the Lord and the Lord's army. Because that commission is greater than the one I received from the United States Air Force Academy."

We can't have "end days" American Taliban zealots flying around with bombs on their fighter jets!

The Air Force better get this under control before we have to RUN the fundies out of the airplanes ourselves!

2. a clear and present danger
that if not remedied will bring the end of elected government. These people have to be removed forthwith and summarily discharged. We don't need a Dr. Strangelove moment.

6. Which elected Gov't is that?
And this has been an issue for a LONG time. I saw warnings of this on DU in my newbie days, but people were like "Eh, that'll never happen. Christian Fundies are good people."

21. And lets' not forget that he also has publically denounced his oath...
without resigning his commission. Which means he should be dishonorably discharged summarily, IMHO.

Is there any current or former JAG's who could comment on this? I would love an informed opinion on this.

16. LOL. Would that be the Heir Force?
OK, couldn't resist the pun.

I basically thought the same thing: If his Air Force oath is something he thinks a prior, greater oath may supersede, then he should not -- and, honestly, can not -- take the Air Force oath.

19. And he has stated publicly that he will violate it.
Legally I think that is called intent and given that there is more than one of them stating the same thing and connected tothe same group it is also a conspiracy to commit treason.

They should all be jailed and then dishonorably discharged. The fact that they aren't tells us all we need to know about how deep the corruption goes.

8. So, he's going to stop killing people with that B-2?
Perhaps dismantle it, sell the parts, and use the proceeds to feed the hungry?

Because that's what the "Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ" would want him to do.

13. If we ever have a military led coup you can bet the
Air Force would be behind it. The cultist at Colorado Springs must be stopped. This isn't your Daddy's military. This crap would not have happened a generation ago. The traitor Air Force officer who spoke that God's Army baloney should be in Levenworth.

14. the Air Force has gone completely nutso in the past decade.
It sounds like the air force academy in Colorado Springs is little more than a fundamentalist recruiting station.

17. Bush got away with saying: "God told me to invade Iraq." Besides the implication of hearing voices,
Edited on Mon Jan-31-11 08:42 AM by BridgeTheGap
which he was never challenged on, he initiated an invasion on the same pretext. If he can get away with it, the proclamations of this B-2 pilot probably won't stir the pot much. He also didn't seem to elaborate on who calls the shots re: when he would have to make a decision. Is he also hearing the voice of god?

They killed Le Chiffre in Casino Royale (2006 film version) IIRC.
