Reprisal abductions in Tripoli Ruth Sherlock From: The Australian March 04, 2011 12:00AM Increase Te
THE brother of a media organiser for Libya's rebels was abducted by the regime yesterday.
Atif el Hasia, 41, a volunteer for the anti-Gaddafi revolutionary council, is usually a relaxed figure as he assists the international press in Benghazi.

Yesterday, he appeared with tears streaming down his face. "Listen, please, I need a press conference now. They have taken my brother from his home in Tripoli," he said. "They came into his home with Kalashnikovs 10 minutes ago. There were six or seven people. They kicked down the door and they dragged him away. I don't know where he is."

Mr Hasia's brother, Jalal, 42, is a doctor who lives with his wife, son and three daughters in Tripoli. "He has no involvement in political activity, he is a normal person," Mr Hasia said.

Mr Hasia said he was paying the price for becoming a public face in Libya, organising press conferences and making statements against the Gaddafi regime. "I was expecting something, some form of reprisal, perhaps a call," he said. "My name is in the open. It is a complete and utter response of the regime to my involvement in this."
