Robert Scheer: Still in the Dark About 9/11
from truthdig:

Still in the Dark About 9/11

Posted on Mar 8, 2011
By Robert Scheer

Ignorance is the real victor in the president’s reluctant decision to abandon the effort to bring the alleged perpetrators of the 9/11 terrorist attack to account in civilian court. The significance of a fair and public trial would be to reveal to the world the motives and makeup of those we must defeat, and yet the very people in this country who claim to be the most militant in combating terrorism have been the most energetic and effective in stifling that inquiry.

It must be said that Barack Obama deserves credit for attempting to show the world that truth will triumph and justice will prevail when even the most dastardly offenders are given their day in court. But faced with a shrill Republican-led opposition in Congress that succeeded in banning the trials on U.S. soil, the president reluctantly reversed the decision he had made upon taking office to halt military commission trials of those detained at Guantanamo. The announcement Monday by Defense Secretary Robert Gates rescinding the ban on the military trials also called for the indefinite imprisonment of those Guantanamo inmates thought to be too dangerous to be released but against whom the government doesn’t have enough evidence to obtain convictions. The shortcomings of the military commission trials was denounced by Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., who said such proceedings fall “far short of core constitutional values by failing to provide judicial review of cases considered by the review board’ and to guarantee “meaningful assistance of counsel” to those accused.

But it is not the rights of the accused, important as they are, that should be the main concern here. Rather it is the right—indeed, need—of the American public to learn the truth about the motives, financing and methods of those who are alleged to have torn at the heart of our social fabric. What led 15 solid citizens of our ally Saudi Arabia to hijack those planes under direction of their Western-educated leaders is still murky. How did our allies in the war against Soviet communism in Afghanistan, Osama bin Laden and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, come to mastermind that savage attack on America? It is startling that, almost a decade after the attack, we still must rely for our understanding of what happened on a narrative informed not by the full disclosure revealed by the evaluation of a vetted record and robust cross-examination in open court of the key witnesses but rather by the unexamined and unquestioned reckoning of the facts supplied by the government officials who interrogated and indeed tortured the prisoners, most significantly Mohammed. ............(more)

1. Those responsible for 9/11 aren't even in custody, let alone on trial.
In fact, except for patsies, they've yet to be identified and are very much still at large. This whole "war on terror" is a farce.

6. Yes indeedy! Which may be the reason why
Obama doesn't want some of those people on trial. They may say some inconvenient things.

4. Well call me a
nut job conspiracy theorist birfer

This is another thing that if given 2 minutes of serious thought was raise a million questions. WHY did Bush fight tooth and nail to prevent an investigation in to the biggest crime in American history? 3,000 + killed, thousands of lives destroyed from being at or near the crime scene and no one wants to know what happened?

I remember W saying something like this before leaving office. Not an exact quote but "One day, a really smart person is going to sit in here and learn what happened".

I don't think he was referring just to 9/11. he did a lot of really nasty stuff~

11. I want to know why he was allowed, along with DIck
to testify OFF THE RECORD to the 9/11 cOmission.

Why were pilots allowed to carry sidearms in the cockpit up until July '01, when that rule was changed by Rumsfeld?
(Of course they made a big show of "changing the rules to allow pilots to be armed" post 9/11.)

Why was the authority to launch interceptors changed from the Air Force base command to Sec. of Defense, who could not be reached on 9/11?

So many questions, not enough REAL answers.

"Uh, we were ALL struck with a temporary and convenient case of incompetence the morning of 9/11." just doesn't cut it.

5. We will NEVER get the truth
The truth is something our government will NOT tell us. A public trial of these "terrorist" will expose 9/11 for what I believe it is. A farce on the American people. It was our "Shock and Awe" and Bush/Cheney need to be on the stand at that trial. Preferably on the defense side. Yes 19 "terrorist" who never even thought about flying out of NY, where at the time you could see the towers from the runway. I guess they rushed it. LOL! Better to try and hijack a plane for a few hours rather than a few minutes after take off and only 100 or 200 miles out. The governments case would not hold up to Dale Hinman or a Forensic Files episode. They have NOTHING as far as physical evidence. And they did their damnest to get rid of all evidence. That is why these "terrorist" must never be able to tell their story. They shot Oswald, and these guys are 171 Oswalds. We will never get to hear their side.

I swear I saw a video of civilian workers at the Pentagon shoulder to shoulder picking up items off the lawn of the Pentagon. A crime scene, but yet they are out there picking up what appears to be small debris. Why did they do that? What were they picking up? Who are these people? This was now a crime scene, and they are taking evidence. They weren't military, or the police, just people who worked at the Pentagon. Apparently not afraid of getting blood on themselves either. Why the blue tarp over the big piece of debris? This is our business. I'm not satisfied with the "story" our government gave us. I demand to see more videos of the Pentagon attack. Is that asking too much? Yes I'm a "truther" Aluminum hat and all. These are just some questions I would like answered by my government. We know other establishments near the Pentagon had their tapes basically stolen from them by our government. Why? If there's nothing to see except a plane hitting the Pentagon, then let us see a CLEAR video. Oh and have they found the 2.3 Trillion that went missing at the Pentagon on 09/10/01? I guess not.

That video I refer too isn't around anymore. But what does get me is the video of Gooliani talking about the "collapse" of the towers is edited out. Amazing.

7. Yes, you did see that (picking up debris). As did I. So many incongruities....
There's a lot to be said for inductive thinking...seeing patterns and making inferences from what you observe.

False flag.
