Talking Points Memo...

Rick Santorum told about 50 members of the group Catholic Citizenship that he was "frankly appalled" that America's first Catholic president, John F. Kennedy, once said "I believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute."

"That was a radical statement," Santorum said, and did "great damage."

The Boston Globe reports that Santorum, who is Catholic, criticized the increased secularization of politicians, which he related back to a speech Kennedy gave at the Greater Houston Ministerial Association in 1960. Kennedy had made the speech to a group of Protestant clergy as a presidential candidate, in order to allay fears that the Catholic church would influence his decisions if elected.

1. Does Santorum not get that
If the Religious Right had their way, NO Catholic would hold public office? Does he have any idea what "great damage" was done throughout history when different religious groups fought for support from, or control of governments?

2. Had it not been for that separation, the Catholic Church would have suffered much more.
As it was, the Philadelphia Bible riots were mild compared to the religious wars in Europe.

But, then, nutty rightwing Catholics would love to return to the days of the Inquisition.

4. I hope this nutjob can go see his maker very soon. JFK was right.
He was a child when JFK ran for president. He sure forgets quickly how the southerns specially didn't like him because he was a catholic. If he had said that there would have been no catholic president. Even the supreme court had no catholics. Republicans always want it both ways. What a bunch of RETARDS.

6. One of The Big Lies
That take could not be more wrong, JFK was correct. The problem is the nation is full of dim lightbulbs who will believe any nonsense the wingnuts peddle.

8. I'm Surprised that a Santorum can talk!
Isn't a Santorum a frothy mixture of fecal matter and lube caused by vigorous buttsecks?
