VT House passed Universal Health Care Bill today. They will make
Edited on Fri Mar-25-11 08:18 PM by Cal33
a "human rights" issue out of the bill. I would love to see many
other states follow suit. But, of course, the Neocons will fight
it tooth and nail.

Past polls have shown that most people are for the single payer system.
The rest of the industrialized nations of the world have it already a
long time ago, and are doing very well with it. We are only some 60
years behind them.

2. Bring on the insurance corp. apologists!
They'll whine about how 'poor people" will take advantage of this system and swear that it will destroy VT. What will they do ten years from now when Vermont has shown everyone how wrong they are?

7. And Fox will turn up their noise machine claiming VT has been taken over by
evil socialists trying to take over the country, that VT is a welfare state, and it's contagious. That only the insurance companies can save America and the worlds' best healthcare system.

15. They will probably do what they do with Canada and Britain
Every time someone in Vermont has to wait longer than they'd like for a doctors' appointment, it will be breathlessly reported on as further evidence that Socialism Doesn't Work. That's if the system ever gets off the ground in the first place (see my previous reply).

10. Once the Single Payer system takes hold in one state, the people
from other states will soon learn how beneficial it really is. Reality in front
of their eyes will overcome any propaganda and lies that the right-winger
corporations continue to brain-wash the people with. This will take some time,
of course.

The above is exactly what the right-wingers are afraid of. They will fight
against it with all they've got. This is what always happens when too many
positions of power are filled by greedy and sick sociopaths. They are
screwing up the economy and bleeding our working-class people dry. I hope
their day of reckoning will come soon.

11. Single payer should make Vermont quite attractive to business investment as well.
Relieving businesses from the cost burden of providing workers with health insurance is a huge incentive for investment there.

13. Yup! The crooked Health Insurance Cos. will have to leave the state, and
will be repaced by honest decent businesses, I hope.

I believe that the whole financial mess our country is in
has been created by the financial finageling of crooked
corporate execs. and their supporters. None of this would
have happened, if everyone had paid their fair share of taxes.

14. Let's not get too excited just yet
Other states have passed such bills before, only to have them die a quiet death behind closed doors. I hope Vermont can be the first to actually make it a reality, but there's a long way to go before that happens.

17. Well, do you know if the Vermont senate has more Repubs than
Dems? And is the Vermont governor a Repub? Barring the above,
how will the bill not get signed?

All we need is one state with the Single Payer System to start
with. The Repubs. will fight like hell. I'm not saying that
this is going to be easy. But TRUTH WILL OUT in the end.

18. Not all Dems are on the side of truth
I don't know enough about Vermont state politics to know if any of its state representatives are conservadems in the pockets of the insurance industry.
