Tea party's skewed history
Tea party's skewed history
Robyn Blumner, St. Petersburg Times, 3/26

Too many people who claim they love America aren't feeling the same about their fellow countrymen.

The tea party's counter-demonstrations in Wisconsin are a prime example. Imagine celebrating the defeat of the collective bargaining rights that gave $50,000-a-year teachers their only semblance of control over their working lives. Can you feel the love?

Another back-of-the-hand to everyday Americans is the tea party crowd's combative response to President Barack Obama's health care reform. The measure just passed its first anniversary and already provides Americans desperately needed consumer protections against predatory health insurers.

These self-declared patriots and strict constructionists claim it's constitutionally heretical to force Americans to participate in a program that makes comprehensive health insurance affordable and accessible to all.

1. K&R- Most of them also believe the "Founding Fathers" were christian...
most of them were Deists, and against any type of state supported religion at all.

3. Oh heavens, it's just they hate to be told "you have to do this"
A great number of tea party people have guns and hunt. They have NO objection to paying for a concealed carry permit, a hunting license, big game tags and a fishing license.

The ones who have boats don't object to paying for a boat registration.

Most of them have cars, and so far there's no objection from them to buying license plates and, hopefully, auto insurance.

And while they don't want to do it, there's pretty good compliance from the tea party regarding paying their income tax.

But if you tell 'em they have to have SOME way to pay their medical bills...you know, just in case all that angst over taxes and government intrusion gives them an ulcer or something...they start screaming bloody murder.
