Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana has indicated that he would be willing to shut the government down if the policy rider defunding Planned Parenthood is not approved by the Senate.
The GOP are painting this as a way to prevent Planned Parenthood from using taxpayer funds to provide abortions. But, according to the Hyde Amendment, if they are indeed performing abortions using taxpayer funding, they are breaking the law, and could be easily prosecuted.
But I guess that would require that they actually used taxpayer funds for their abortion services.
