Democrats took one in the nadgers
with this budget deal. Killing light rail and fast trains, and rolling EPA's money back to 2009 levels. It's a big win for the energy companies. It's gonna be DBD and regulators on the defensive for as far as the eye can see. And an unexpected windfall for defense contractors. If this is a win, i'm the lost czarevich Alexei.

The budget deal struck last week by Congress to keep the government from shutting down slashes money for high-speed rail projects and the Environmental Protection Agency but boosts the Pentagon’s budget by about $5 billion.

With a deal won at the last possible instant to avert a partial government shutdown, attention turns to what may be an even bigger battle: Raising the government's debt ceiling. And then there's the matter of Washington's budget for fiscal 2012 — a presidential election year.
