Have you noticed, that while food prices are
rising fast, you don't hear anything about it from our politicians or the MSM. Maybe they just don't notice it because they're all in that fortunate 10th oercentile.

4. They don't buy groceries.
Their groceries just magically appear in their kitchens and pantries, and their secretaries pay their credit card bill at the end of the month.

They might notice the cost of an eighty dollar meal at a restaurant - though probably not - and in comparison to that, a $500 monthly grocery bill is insignificant. Hell, you can't get a decent bottle of wine for less than $120.

6. The true rising prices of food ARE HIDDEN...
I don't know specifically why this is happening--but the true cost increases of
basic foods at the grocery store--are NOT being accurately reported.

Every once in a while, we hear that the price of some food items, have gone up
2 or 3 percent.

That's total baloney. I pay very close attention to food prices. I am one of
those crazy couponers, and I take every dime I spend at the grocery store, very
seriously. I have a notebook of food prices, that I have kept for a decade. I
write down sale prices of many things--then when I go to different stores, I
look back at the notebook to compare prices and to know if a sale price--really
is a good deal.

According to my notes--food prices have risen about 30 percent in the past decade.
The cost of some food items has doubled.

The cost of produce has skyrocketed, as have prices for staples such as bread, milk,
cheese, eggs, bacon, red meat and chicken.

This is NOT being reported and it affects everyone. It's like getting a paycut, if
you ask me. Combine soaring food prices with rising gas prices--and it's no wonder
the economy is sputtering and people are not spending. They're paying literally
hundreds of dollars more for food and gas--then they were just five years ago.

And wouldn't you know it...the CPI that is reported, does not include food or gas.
I'd call the reported CPI numbers nothing but lies and trickery.

11. I'm fairly aware of prices (but don't have a notebook) and my feeling is that groceries have gone up
Edited on Fri Jul-08-11 11:45 PM by kath
at least 15% in the past 2 years or so. (my memory for many things is going to pot, but I can remember what a good sale price is for most groceries I buy) Would you agree?

12. I recently read that the true cost of groceries has risen 36% in one year...
...if you calculate the smaller packages, etc.

Sure, there are sales. But an honest evaluation shows so much more than they are telling the American people.

It's a kind of terrorism.

13. Two Pork Chops for Five Dollars
I don't automatically buy pork chops anymore; they've gotten too expensive. But I always look to see if they're on sale. Pork sausage has gone way up too. Serves me right for eating pork.

Pork has gotten pricey.

17. I use chicken as much as I can to make it cost effective.
I roast a chicken and only eat a couple of pieces. The rest is cubed or chopped for a casserole. The giblets and carcass are used for chicken stock.

there was no way I could afford the Costco fee for about 2 1/2 years. If I wanted tortillas, I made my own.

18. Our betters have no idea what shit costs.
They have staff that handles all those mundane details of daily life. and their social circle all has staff that takes care of it all.
And when you make a million dollars a year, what's $12 a pound for pork or $5 a gallon for gasoline?
