Teabaggers vs Manatees.
God Hates Manatees. It's in the bible!

The comments to this article are downright looney.

Tea party members tackle a new issue: manatees

By Craig Pittman, Times Staff Writer
In Print: Wednesday, July 13, 2011

Everybody knows what the tea party members oppose. High taxes. Big government. Obama's health care plan. High-speed rail.

Now, for at least some local tea party members, there's one more to add: manatee protection.

A Citrus County tea party group has announced that it's fighting new restrictions on boating and other human activities in Kings Bay that have been proposed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

"We cannot elevate nature above people," explained Edna Mattos, 63, leader of the Citrus County Tea Party Patriots, in an interview. "That's against the Bible and the Bill of Rights."

(snip) more, and they get dumber.

2. Isn't it funny how these non-partisan, non-ideological tax patriots
always tend to be religious republicans?

3. Just a variation of Samuel Johnson's famous quote ""Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel"
When Samuel Johnson wrote that comment he was NOT attacking Patriotism itself, but that people who use Patriotism for their own device are NOT to be trusted. If all else fails, call your opposition unpatriotic and that people must stand with you to be patriotic, even if you are selling the Country down the drain.

The same with people who cite Religion, most are using Religion as an excuse for what is in their own best interests, and will quickly disregard (and disavow) any religious rule that interferes with those interests. Such people are using Religion for their own best interests, and trying to put people who oppose them into a category of people who oppose that religion. Basically if you oppose the Speaker, the Speaker will say you are opposing GOD, even if the opposition cites the Bible, Koran, Torah and every other Religious text to show what is being proposed is OPPOSED in those texts. i.e. if you oppose the speaker, you are opposing GOD, even if it is clear even GOD oppose the Speaker.

Such people will use Patriotism for the same purpose (and often do) even when something is NOT in the best interest of the Country (i.e. If something is in the speaker's best interest, opposition to what is being proposed is being Unpatriotic even if what is being proposed will do great harm to the Country).

5. The forgotten amendment to the bill of rights.
Congress shall pass no law slowing down drunken boaters to the Gulf of Mexico.

6. Oh, right, that's one of the Fourteen Commandments.
I never could remember them all. I just assume that, on a purely statistical basis, I probably still haven't broken most of them.

8. Thou Shalt Not Placeth Animal kind above Human Kind
It was on the tablet that Moses dropped.
There were originally 15 Commandments.
Moses dropped the third tablet.
I saw it in a documentary of the History the World Part I

10. Proof positive that we need more boating accidents to thin their herd.
These people make me want to beat them over the head with their book of fables.

Will no one rid me of these meddlesome priests indeed...
