Part company with Japan for UNSC seat, China tells India
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/china/Part-company-with-Japan-for-UNSC-seat-China-tells-India/articleshow/9249876.cms

BEIJING: India should part company with Japan in its quest for a seat in the United Nations Security Council if it expects China to back the proposal. This is what visiting Marxist leader Sitaram Yechury learnt in his discussions with Chinese leaders including State Councilor Dai Bingguo.

"Dai said China has no objection to backing India provided we come out of Japan's field. He said they have a lot of historical baggage with Japan," Yechury told Indian journalists today.

Though China's distrust for Japan is well known, it has not publicly made it a pre-condition for New Delhi for supporting India's case at the UN. Chinese leaders have no far restricted themselves to saying that it supported India's case "in principal".

But Dai and other Chinese leaders chose not to discuss the Tibet problem with the Indian Marxist leader. This is surprising because Beijing is at present reworking its strategy on Indian Tibetans since the recent elections in Dharmashala. The omission is also significant because China is furious over plans of US president Barrack Obama to meet the Dalai Lama on July 16.

This is a ploy by China to split up the India-Japan coalition, and an obvious one at that.Furthermore this so called "Indian Marxist party" is nothing but an insignificant lil group of doddering old men entirely removed from the aspirations of the rest of India. No one cares about what the Chinese tells them...especially when Marxists are considered lackeys of China.

China can Veto India's UNSC aspirations, but it will only ensure a speedy demise to the UN if it does. Billions of people cannot be kept away from the decision making process of the UN just cos a bunch of nations declared they have veto power 60 years ago and closed the door for everyone else. If the UN has to remain relevant in the near future, India and Japan have to get the Veto power. If not the UN will go the way the League of nations did. Better yet, just abolish Veto power altogether.

There is close cooperation between China's neighbors, fueled by the heavy handed and expansionist Chinese policies and such attempts at trickery will only serve to make the coalition stronger. What were the Chinese thinking? on one hand they demand that India stay away from the Nobel Prize event for the Chinese Dissident(It didnt) and then claim that they will support India's aspirations for the UN seat?..all the while arming Pakistan to the teeth and Vetoing the UN resolutions to place Pakistani terrorist groups on the UN terror list? The Indians are not stupid and by such actions China only serves to confirm the suspicions of its neighbors about China's hegemonic ambitions.
