It's Time the Media Finally Covered This Story
Also Seen on Daily Kos

Probably the most censored story of the past few years (and certainly in my lifetime) is the cancer rate in Fallujah, Iraq being worse than in Hiroshima.

As the London Independent points out:

Dramatic increases in infant mortality, cancer and leukaemia in the Iraqi city of Fallujah, which was bombarded by US Marines in 2004, exceed those reported by survivors of the atomic bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, according to a new study.

This is confirmed in the study "Cancer, Infant Mortality and Birth Sex-Ratio in Fallujah, Iraq 2005-2009" which has catastrophic results of four-fold increase in all cancers and a 14-fold increase in childhood cancers.

And of course, with it comes the ominous specter of chemical warfare with things such as depleted uranium used for increasing density in bullets. As the Dr. Bubsy the co-author points out, "My guess is that they used a new weapon against buildings to break through walls and kill those inside."

The US media's response

There hasn't been any, the media is acting to silence the matter and not hold power accountable.

What Can We Do About It?

Contact them! It took an organized campaign to get the newspapers to cover Gary Webb's expose of the CIA-backed Contras funneling crack into the United States. As the Columbia Journalism Review notes "It was public pressure that essentially forced the media to address Webb's allegations."

2. Here's the email I sent (to all the sources and more)
To whom it may concern,

There is a lack of reporting on a medical study that came out of Fallujah, Iraq showing that people in the city have worse rates of cancer than the survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The study, "Cancer, Infant Mortality and Birth Sex-Ratio in Fallujah, Iraq 2005-2009" can be found here:

I understand it might upset a good deal of people and there are huge pressures to suppress it, but it's news Americans need to know.
