China finally ready to admit Pak's role in Xinjiang violence
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/china/China-finally-ready-to-admit-Paks-role-in-Xinjiang-violence/articleshow/9300792.cms

BEIJING: A Chinese government think-tank has finally broken the deafening silence about the role of Pakistan in the continuous spate of violence in China's western province of Xinjiang. There are indications Beijing will now exert pressure on Islamabad to come clean about the support being given to anti-China forces from inside Pakistan.

The think-tank, the Institute of Central Asia at the Xinjiang Academy of Social Sciences, has pointed the finger at Pakistan as the source of violence. This is is something both Chinese officials and anti-China bodies like World Uighur Congress always avoid doing.

The violence in Hotan, which is next door from the Pakistan border, left nearly 20 dead on Monday, it is now being revealed. The incident showed that Communist Party of China's close relationship with the Jamat-e-Islami and its protective attitude towards Pakistan have both failed to insulate Xinjiang from separatist violence.

"Located in the southern part of Xinjiang, Hotan is close to the border with Pakistan. Due to their affinity in religion and language, some Uyghur residents there are at risk of being influenced by terrorist groups such as the East Turkistan Islamic Movement," Pan Zhiping, director of the Institute was quoted in the State run Global Times as saying.

1. China says 14 extremists killed in Xinjiang attack
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/china/China-says-14-extremists-killed-in-Xinjiang-attack/articleshow/9297822.cms

BEIJING: Ethnic religious extremists armed with homemade weapons attacked a police station in China's restive far west earlier this week in a planned siege that ended with 14 of the 18 attackers dead, China said on Wednesday in a new detailed account of the violence.

State media variously have blamed terrorists, rioters or thugs for Monday's violence in the Xinjiang region. An exile group that advocates for greater Uighur autonomy instead has said a peaceful protest turned into a bloody clash between police and demonstrators.

Xinjiang has been beset by ethnic conflict and a sometimes-violent separatist movement by Uighurs (pronounced WEE'-gurs), a largely Muslim ethnic group that sees Xinjiang as its homeland. Many Uighurs resent the Han Chinese majority as interlopers.

A group of "religious extremists" opposed to the Chinese government arrived two days earlier in Hotan and organized the terror attack in the city, a Xinjiang regional government spokeswoman told The Associated Press.

3. i thought so. especially in light of pakistan & china's 'growing' relationship.
i think china sees pakistan as a partner in it's attempt to 'surround' india -- but maybe that will come into doubt.
