Blackwater’s New Ethics Chief: John Ashcroft May 4,2011
I just read this article.. It may already be known, but I was a bit surprised.... John Ashcroft helped defend and protect the patriot act, and while in the hospital was asked to sign paper work under heavy medication that would sign off on spying on Americans on March 10,2004. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxHjWYA50Ds

Ashcroft will head Xe’s new “subcommittee on governance,” its backers announced early Wednesday in a statement. The subcommittee is designed to “maximize governance, compliance and accountability” and “promote the highest degrees of ethics and professionalism within the private-security industry.”

In other words, no more shooting civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan, no more signing for weapons its guards aren’t authorized to carry in war zones, no more impersonations of cartoon characters to acquire said weaponry, and no more ‘roids and coke on the job.

Ashcroft’s arrival at Xe is yet another clear signal it’s not giving up the quest for lucrative government security contracts now that it’s no longer owned by founder Erik Prince, even as it emphasizes the side of its business that trains law enforcement officers. In September, it won part of a $10 billion State Department contract to protect diplomats, starting with the U.S. consulate in Jerusalem.

Ashcroft, a U.S. senator before becoming attorney general in the Bush administration, is a very known quantity to the federal officials that Xe will pitch. Even if he’s not lobbying for Blackwater, Ashcroft’s addition on the board is meant to inspire confidence in government officials of its newfound rectitude.

3. Will existing wiretapping/eavesdropping laws protect police and possibly Xe?
Edited on Fri Jul-29-11 12:24 PM by midnight
In at least three states, it is illegal to record any on-duty police officer, even if the encounter involves you and may be necessary to your defense, and even if the recording is on a public street where no expectation of privacy exists. The legal justification is usually based on the warped interpretation of existing wiretapping or eavesdropping laws with statutes against obstructing law enforcement sometimes cited.http://www.alternet.org/story/151806/15_years_in_prison_for_taping_the_cops_how_eavesdropping_laws_are_taking_away_our_best_defense_against_police_brutality/

I'm not sure how all this secret stuff jives with our lives on a daily basis, but it certainly has taken and ripped up any understanding I have had over this countries origins, and laws... Having a former Attorney General open doors into this world of security for corporations here and in the middle east.... but, at the same time leaving it's own citizen's defensless is unacceptable...

7. When in trouble hire public relations people
Don't fix the problem just hire the people to convince the public the problem is being fixed. Whether you call it public relations or not doesn't matter as long as the public sticks their head in the sand.

Some times, apparently, the best person for the job is someone who couldn't beat a dead man in a fair election.
