A man in Suva, Fiji, is being taught to act human after being raised as a chicken.

Sunjit Kumar was locked in a chicken coop for several years as a young boy, after his parents died and he was handed over to his grandfather.

He had little contact with humans during that time and picked up the habits of the birds.

The most famous story in the US was that of Genie, who had been locked in isolation in her room in los Angeles for ten years. She was 13 when she was discovered in 1970, though she didn't look it - she was tiny and underdeveloped. She was then institutionalized, where the doctors tried to teach her normal human interaction, including how to speak. She was able to learn individual words but not grammar and syntax, supporting theories that there is a key period in a child's development when these skills must be learned or lost forever. The case is tragic both in her brutal upbringing and in the mistakes made by sciemtists in trying to help her. I hope we can do better for this unfortunate man.
