heroic proposal to stop human-animal marriages
Jay Bookman from the Atlanta Journal-constitution by way of the Austin American Statesman (both require registration)

Bookman suggests a constitutional ammendment forbidding interspecies marriages, since a gay marriage ammendment would still allow humans to marry animals of the opposite sex.

Excerpts:

"What's next?" Braves pitcher John Smoltz said, when asked his opinion about gay marriage. "Marrying an animal?"

That same obsession seems to have afflicted Timothy Dailey, a stern opponent of gay marriage and a senior fellow at the Family Research Council, a national conservative group. In a brochure titled "The Slippery Slope of Same-Sex Marriage," Dailey brings up an obscure case that came to light five years ago about a deluded soul in Missouri named Mark. It seems that Mark fell in love with his pony, named Pixel, and in 1993 "married" her in a private ceremony...

if Smoltz, Dailey and others are honestly and truly worried by that prospect — then let's address that issue head on. Let's pass a Federal Animals, Relationships and Marriage amendment to the U.S. Constitution that outlaws all interspecies marriages, period.

Pixel, you see, is a female pony, which means that technically speaking, she and Mark in Missouri have actually enjoyed a stable, heterosexual relationship. A ban on same-sex marriage would do nothing to prevent them joining in holy matrimony. Only the FARM act can save the republic from that travesty.

1. Why do right wing morons have such a problem with the concept
of consent? Marriage contracts are limited to consenting adults. I know of no animals who can consent either verbally or in writing to entering into any sort of a legal contract.

One wonders why the witless right wingers keep bringing this up. Perhaps they've never experienced the phenomenon of a consenting partner in sexual matters.

2. I wouldn't want any of these people...
left alone with my dog. It looks like they're already getting ideas. Now I see they've started rambling on about marriage with turtles. Perhaps they are confusing pediphilia, incest and beastiality with a relationship involving two consenting adults. I suppose that's not such a stretch for a group of people who have the tendancy to objectify human beings.

This is yet another example of why it is nearly impossible to have any kind of logical discourse with many conservatives.
