Jake likes the food but their stove is a joke
Edited on Thu Sep-01-11 08:57 AM by mgc1961
This letter was written 07 January 1944. It was postmarked two weeks later on 21 Jan 1944.

From 730th Bomber Squadron, 452nd Bomber Group

Somewhere in England

Friday

Dearest Dad,

C.C. and I are sitting here as usual writing letters. He looks well and is as happy as usual. I'm feeling fine, getting fat too. The only exercise we get is the walking that we do. I had a jeep most of the day yesterday. We were busy too but today we've just had dinner and are sitting by the fire.

The weather is typical of England. I can't say that I like it but it's not too bad.

The food is exceptionally good so far. Maybe it's just to make us feel good at first but I don't think so.

I'll write again soon. Love to all.

Your devoted son,

Jake Jr.

Jake asks his Dad if he's kept in touch with anyone he knew in England during the Great War. He also gets a kick out of the ridiculously small stove in his barracks.

This V-Mail is dated 10 January 1944. Although written three days later than the previous letter, it's postmarked two days earlier on 19 January 1944.

Monday

Dearest Dad,

Same old think; going to school but we are getting a lot of good stuff. We'll probably be using it before too long. I haven't been to London yet so I don't have much of interest to tell.

Where were you stationed when you were here? Do you know of anyone over here that I ought to know? I can't think of any of the fellows who are over here, but there should be plenty of my classmates.

Our barracks aren't as bad as tents but you should see them. The stove is so small it's funny. The weather isn't cold but it is damp.

Give my love to all.

Your devoted son,

Jake Jr.
