Dearest Dad,
There was a nice bunch of letters for me when I came back from London yesterday. Some were dated a long time back. You folks have really been swell in keeping me up with mail.
I had letter from Bennett Atkinson and I take that he is in England. If he is I'll try to get to see him. I've seen quite a few of my old flying classmates but very few of the infantry boys. They must not be over here yet.
I can't think of anything I need except some sweets. Fruit would be nice, but I know it can't be sent. Give my love to all.
Your devoted son,
Jake S. Colvin
This V-mail was written on 22 February 1944 and postmarked on 03 March 1944, three days after Jake was shot down. This one was written the day after their second Brunswick raid on 21 February 1944. They didn't fly as group again until the 24th of Feburary when they planned to bomb Posen on the far side of Germany.

Dearest Dad,
I have three raids behind me now. It feels good too. I hope the next one's that I have will come out a successful. I had the hardest one on my very first raid. (Jake's first raid was probably the group's February 8th raid on Frankfurt during which the group lost 5 airplanes. They lost another five airplanes on the their first Brunswick raid two days later.)
I have a pass starting in the morning, if they don't call me for a raid. I don't know exactly where I'll go. I went to London before so I guess I'll try Edinburgh. All I want to do is see all of England that I can.
I am getting along fine and am happy. Love to all.
Your devoted son,
Jake S. Colvin
