Bacteria Spreading in Warming Oceans. The Weather Channel
Edited on Thu Sep-15-11 02:09 AM by sce56

BRUSSELS (AP) -- Warning: The warming of the world's oceans can cause serious illness and may cost millions of euros (dollars) in health care charges.

That was the alarm sounded in a paper released online Tuesday on the eve of a two-day conference in Brussels.

The 200-page paper is a synthesis of the findings of more than 100 projects funded by the European Union since 1998. It was produced by Project CLAMER, a collaboration of 17 European marine institutes.

The paper says the rising temperature of ocean water is causing a proliferation of the Vibrio genus of bacteria, which can cause food poisoning, serious gastroenteritis, septicemia and cholera.

"Millions of euros in health costs may result from human consumption of contaminated seafood, ingestion of waterborne pathogens, and, to a lesser degree, though direct occupational or recreational exposure to marine disease," says the paper. "Climatic conditions are playing an increasingly important role in the transmission of these diseases."

Not to mention the brain eating Amoebas are killing more every year due to higher water temps!

1. This is just one of the many reasons why I'll never eat seafood again in my lifetime.
Between this, the Corexit and the radiation from Japan, I don't want any of it.:hurts:

3. Add one more to the column of ways the Earth is fighting the disease (HUMANS)...
The one thing the right wing is correct about, in a sad, twisted and totally accidental and tangential way, is that we do not have to do anything about the climate change issues.

Sadly, therein ends their correctness.

Everything we are seeing - volatile weather patterns, stronger, larger storms, longer, more intense droughts, rising sea levels, melting glaciers and now increased habitats for bacteria - add up to one thing. We do not have to do anything about climate change, because if we don't we will extinct the species within a few generations and the earth will simply heal it self in geological time while waiting to see if the insects can evolve into anything better than the mammals achieved in humanity.

To quote the dearly departed George Carlin: "Save the planet? get the fuck out of here with that....the planet is FINE, its not going ANYWHERE....WE ARE!!!"
