I don't think they are officially affiliated with the school, but I know they boast that they have the largest circulation of any campus newspaper in the country. Any current or former gator has read the alligator.

4. The Independant Florida Alligator

is an off-campus publication. I believe at one time it had been an official campus newspaper but was kicked off campus for some reason that escapes me. It was independant when I moved to Gainesville in '74 so it has been that way for quite a while. We have some Hogtown DU'ers here who can give a definitive answer.
