"America needs a new New Deal"
"The physcial accomplishments of the New Deal have served as the core of the US education, health, recreation, transportation, justice and civic admistration facilities for decades."

http://english.aljazeera.net/indepth/opinion/2011/09/20119248127283684.html

"...Of course, the problem is not just public infrastructure - it involves America's entire physically productive base. Americans well know that their manufacturing base has eroded dramatically over the past 30 years. This past decade, the erosion in manufacturing jobs was particularly intense, but was masked, in part, by the housing construction boom. When that collapsed, the earlier erosion in manufacturing became more obvious, but politicians still seem incapable of connecting the dots.

It's a bipartisan myopia, as shown by President Obama's effort to promote "free trade" agreements as a "jobs program", despite decades of evidence to the contrary - particularly when it comes to manufacturing. ..."

3. Agreed, but good luck with that...
Even I'd say half the Democratic party doesn't support any kind of new deal. And definitely not anyone in the Democratic party with any semblence of power or a leadership positions. So yeah. What are the chances of it happening? Slim to none.

12. Exactly. And sometimes I think Nixon was better than some of the crap we have now. And that
is really a downer.

Can u imagine that getting passed the 112th No-Nothing, Do-Nothing congress?

Even if you can convince enough Republicans, there are still the Corporatist Democrats.

8. Exactly. Congress does not serve "we the people," and hence their 12% approval rating, yet
we are forced to support them, salaries and benefits. They are, for the most part, in their own world, and "we the people" ain't part of it ...

13. I want to say "Hell yeah, we do!"
But then the realist/cynic in me thinks about the fact that they'll only be marginalized and not supported and given no power whatsoever within the party. And then I also think about the fact that in order to get more liberal dems in that means we'd have to get some of the more useless dems out (and sadly that's at least about 25% of them...and I'm being generous with that estimate), and that will never happen because the party and it's leadership is more about the Incumbent Protection Racket than it is doing what is best for the country as a whole and definitely more so than it is about promoting progressive ideas.

14. I only donate anymore via
http://www.boldprogressives.org/ to select candidates. I dropped my DNC membership and others, because I only support progressives now. I felt I was getting railroaded into supporting candidates that were standard blue dog DLC fair.
