Seattle Times affirms support of Bush*
I feel as if I just stepped through the looking glass. Good thing I didn't eat recently. Perhaps Friday is also a good day to let The Seattle Times know what you think of their support for Chimpy McCokespoon.

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/editorialsopinion/2001584177_bushed22.html

The focused presidency

President Bush will get an earful from protesters today. Aggravated Americans are a native species here, part of the culture and entitled to their protests. But this is an industrious state, and most Washingtonians will be going about their business without obsessing about the president of the United States.

This page supported the election of George W. Bush, and though we have disagreed with some of his environmental measures and the clash between homeland security and civil rights, we stand by the man.

... This page expected that Bush would fumigate the White House of its odor of licentiousness, pardon-selling and general juvenilia. He did, which is why nobody talks about those things any longer. He has surrounded himself with adults.

Finally, he is focused. All presidents know that they have eight years at most, maybe four. Some waste that time on tricks to get their poll numbers up, or a dozen other things that seem important at the time, but aren't. Bush is making his time count.

4. And here's what I wrote:
Editors:

Regarding your Twilight Zone-like editorial extolling the imagined virtues of a George Bush quite unlike the one actually inhabiting the White House ("focused?" -- on what? The endless quagmire in Iraq? Dismantling environmental protection? Repealing ever more civil rights in the name of fighting "terror?"), I'd like to speak to the one point about his being surrounded by "adults."

Prisons are filled with "adults" too, strictly speaking, so I think the term needs to be a little better defined. Of course, you couldn't say our accidental President was surrounded by "people of integrity," or "people with vision," or even "people who can see past their own personal gain," so I guess the disinformation slinger behind your editorial settled on "adults" as a general ruse, hoping we wouldn't notice.

How exactly like the Bush administration.

For America,

etc.

6. Excellent
I'm sick and tired of the ridiculous "Adults" analogy as well.

(Fortunately Seattle is still a two Paper town...for now)

3. The Seattle Times only cares about one thing
The Seattle Times Editorial page is a single issue voter. The only thing they care about is the Inheritance tax. Bush got ride of it and some Democrat might bring it back.

5. How'd you like...
...to have a substance abuse problem that led you to think like that editorial? Come to think of it, how'd you like to be able to *afford* a substance abuse problem of that scale?

9. WOW! SUCH JUNK..
Let them read my list of 191 lies and 44 big waffles.

Ed Crane, co-founder and President of Cato Institute, said "Everything this administration does is political."

How can an intelligent editor back this crowd of World Conquestadors?

Lies--War mongering-arrogant beyond comprehension--enrich the rich and ditch remaining 90%--shaft education--shaft military plus getting them killed--shaft environment--

The true effect of this group will not be truly felt until they leave.

Then, we shall see the damage to our economy, the damage done to the world.

10. Here's what I Wrote Them
Regarding your editorial today heaping praise on President Bush, I must say it one of the most frightening and ill-thought out pieces of journalism I have ever seen. Just what has President Bush accomplished in his two and a half years? Let's see, greatest amount of job losses since the Great Depression, fighting and losing two occupation wars, had the biggest terrorist attack in our nation's history on his watch (which, btw, gave him the mandate to pursue his ideological agenda; certainly his presidency was failing at record speed before 911), has put forth an anti-environment agenda unseen in modern history, seen a record surplus turn into budget deficits PRIOR to 911 and has since created record budget deficits that will leave our children paying for this (and the wars) for decades to come.

I could go on, aggressively invading a sovereign nation that hadn't attacked us for the first time in US history; a war that will cost US taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars, lost lives, and supercharge recruitment for Al Queda as we are now seeing in Iraq, for one. Yet you seem content to strongly endorse this man because he has surrounded himself with adults? As opposed to what, children? Yes, I suppose he deserves an enormous amount of praise for not appointing children to cabinet level positions.

12. Seattle: No room at Bush's table for area's poor and hungry
Holy Toledo! Have they lost their minds, or did they ever have any?
Well, since this post is still active, I am taking the liberty of repeating the post I already made this AM on this same board. Any non-local folks should at least know that Seattle's other paper has a little substance.

This is an excellent article from the P-I.

Robert Jamieson writes some fine reporting and opinion pieces on local issues in Western Washington for the Seattle P-I. After Will Pitt last night, speaking courtesy of Elliot Bay Books, this article just strikes home.

Some excerpts below:

Mr. President, welcome to our Washington. The Evergreen State.

<snip>

Some locals were so eager to shake your hand, express thoughts about the economy, share views on the war. Apparently they weren't important enough to get on your itinerary, which rotates around this axis of evil -- big money and re-election politics.

<snip>

Average people can't afford two thousand bucks to meet you for lunch and speak their mind.

But they can stick a fork in you come Election Day.

Yeah, right, one very large fork, to toss him on the dung heap of history. (and his pusillanimous supporters at the Seattle Times, too.)
