Experts Rate Debate A Draw

NEW YORK, Sept. 30, 2004

(CBS) By David Paul Kuhn,
CBSNews.com Chief Political Writer

There was no clear winner in Thursday night's first presidential debate, according to interviews with experts across the country.

"It’s more relevant to talk about the winner in terms of expectations," said Shanto Iyengar, a professor of American politics at Stanford University. "Given the fact that this was President Bush’s home turf -- national security and terrorism -- he should have dominated. He didn’t. It’s a positive outcome for Kerry."

Yet winners in debates are determined not in the minutes following, but in the 24 to 48 hours to come.

"Anyone who declares a winner in this debate is a predictable partisan. They both did beautiful," said Larry Sabato, director of the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia.

What can we do about media that is so obviously right wing? I feel shamed that I gave CBS ratings for the debate last night.

2. draw
Draw my A$$

Kerry slammed and swept GW Bush

Bush sounded like the usual broken record that he always is
he couldnt speak correctly most of the time
and he looked like he was livid, and pissed that Kerry was
winning.

But according the Karen (I am a bitch) Hughes
you would have thought that GW Bush was Jesus himself

16. low expectations
yeah, the whole fox news (and right winged mantra) is to lower expectations and make it look like Kerry is a debate ninja while Bush is just a straight shootin' country boy with a vision for america...its pathetic.

You can really see that Bush has been living in a bubble of supporters and looks like a deer in the headlights when confronted with facts that get in the way of his neocon ideology.

pathetic!

I did a little cartoon about the debate up at my site;
www.townandplanet.com

dig it!

andy

ps
can't wait for the edwards/cheney debate!

4. CBS = Cowardly Broadcasting System
Since the Dan Rather fiasco, they're afraid to tell the truth about Shrub.

They spiked a 60 minutes story about his numerous lies, now they're calling a debate he clearly lost a draw.

5. "All the experts agreed we will know more in the days to come".
You're damn right they'll know. The American People aren't as stupid as these pundits. They all saw Bush in melt down mode. Bush's ratings should drop like a stone after last night's debacle.

6. The duel with the Black Knight
King Arthur has just cut the Black Knight's last leg off

Black Knight : All right, we'll call it a draw.
King Arthur : (Preparing to leave) Come, Patsy.

King Arthur and Patsy ride off

Black Knight : (calling after King Arthur) Oh, I see. Running away, eh? You yellow bastard. Come back here and take what's coming to you. I'll bite your legs off.

7. All these "experts" have just one vote
Edited on Fri Oct-01-04 11:32 AM by Mountainman
Many more voters scored Kerry the winner. Their votes will far outnumber the "experts" votes.

10. I watched the debate until I could take no more and turned to watch....
...Alton Brown. I turned back and watched the final summations. Anyone that can claim that $hrub did anything but get his ass handed to him on a plate is living in fantasy land. There's a good reason that $hrub looked like a whiny, spoiled, uninformed, over matched frat-brat. He is. $hrub was NEVER presidential material. "I may not be the president, but I play one in real life." That's as good as it gets. What we saw last night was the view behind the proverbial curtain.

While watching $hrub stammer it struck me that people really did vote for this guy four years ago. Of course, that's not why he ended up president, but people did vote for him.

I asked one of my solidly repuke colleagues what he thought about the debates. His response: "Well he was tired because of visiting with the hurricane victims, and you know, foreign policy is not his strong suit. Just wait until the debates focus on the economy. The stock market is booming today because of *'s tax cuts. The economy, that's his strong suit." I held my tongue.

11. So does the BBC
which post Hutton toes the establishment line on the US, Iraq, Bliar...

One announcer on BBC news 24 read out the new Gallop poll and said that it gave Kerry a "marginal" lead. 53 to 37 is a pretty wide margin!
