2. How do you all feel about Kerry and killing
The fact that he killed people in Vietnam? The fact that he talks about hunting down and killing Terrorists?

I personally don't have a problem with it these things, but I'm curious if it bothers many DUers.

3. welllll....
its hard to say.

Viet Nam was a bunch of BS but it was what it was.

As a campaign strategy I think Kerry should come out and say, "I have killed for this country. I have shot a man dead in combat and it gives me greater perspective on the concept of war and what it means down in the trenches."

Might give all those dunder-heads in the south sumthin to chew on!

What a bunch of mindless swill, to throw out their elected Democratic governor in favor of that son-of-a-Nazi.

Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Mary Landrieu, Bob Graham, Bill Nelson, John Lewis, Harold Ford, Berry Castor, Erskine Bowles-"Dunderheads down south" my ass! Idiots are certainly not limited to the south-you have MORE than your share in California to apologize for. Darryl Issa, Chris Cox, Richard Riordan and B-1 Bob Dornan just to name a few

The world is chock full o'idiots!

But being born and raised in Texas I can't help but wonder why the south is the strong hold of not only the republicans but racism, ignorance, intolerance and a whole lotta other ugly things!

I dunno...I am hard on the south because I am from there, have relatives there and am constantly amazed by the ignorance of my home!

6. I was born here and stayed....Sure, we have more than our share of
assholes but remember which state gave us Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon.

As a partnered, openly gay man living in semi-rural Mississippi I have experienced virtually no intolerance-which surprises no one more than me. Many of my supervisors and co-workers were black and we never had a problem. Racism, while not gone, is fading and ignorance, thank God, is curable through education.

They slaughtered Matthew Shepherd in Wyoming, Utah has a "porn czar" to stamp out sex, Ted Kaczynski (unabomber) lived in Montana, Tim McVeigh was from New York, and the worst nutcases in the country have settled in Idaho. There's plenty of ignorance nationally without laying it all on the south. We've been the country's scapegoat for long enough.

BTW, welcome to DU.

7. damn sam!
many good points!

I will try and lighten up on the south. The south is usually my whipping post as I feel like I have free reign since I come from there (and I do the best southern accent of anyone I know!) But you are right! This country is full of idiots ...just look at what a close race this is!

I am now living in San Francisco so I forget myself living in such a liberal bubble from reality!

I was devastated about arnahld being elected. It amazes me that someone can walk into a private voting booth and actually make such a moronic decision!

and thanks for the welcome!

8. John Kerry will be a great president. Go to see "Going Upriver."
It'll show you what a man Kerry is...a man of principle.
