At the right moment Edwards pounced (Newsday...Breslin)
Edited on Wed Oct-06-04 03:57 AM by henslee
Somewhere around 9:45 last night, Richard Cheney, vice president of the nation, turned and said to Sen. John Edwards, Democratic candidate, that he missed big votes in the Senate and had the worst attendance record. Cheney said that he sat as the head of the Senate and was there for practically every session.

Cheney spoke in a deep, dull, confident voice and said things like, "al-Zarqawi has been in Baghdad before the war and after the war." As if all this smoke and fire and reports of dead soldiers and dead babies are an illusion

5. Thought it was when Edwards mentioned what Cheney voted against
Martin Luther King Holiday?? Nelson Mandela? Meals on Wheels? Head Start? God. But I thought when Edwards brought up Bin Laden getting away at Tora Bora, that really got Cheney quiet, not to mention the stonewalling of the formation of the 9/11 commission, and Halliburton, or Cheney being against sanctions on Iran.

Add to that Rumsfield's & Bremer's criticisms. "Tricky Dick" never really had an answer for them.

Edwards hit on every subject I wanted him too.

Jimmy Breslin has written some incredible columns, wish everyone would read them.

I might be wrong, but didnt Cheney also vote against the Equal Rights Ammendment for Women??

debate analyses fundamentally opinion pieces anyway. And just because Breslin is a columnist, I should exclude his reporting. What do you think of my reasoning?

11. Voted in the poll and read the column - terrific piece
I don't know much about Long Island but I think of it as Republican, so I'm not surprised by the poll results.

The Breslin column is very stirring. The moment he describes, when Cheney said he'd never met Edwards before that night, was Cheney's "go fuck yourself" statement to Edwards. You little pissant, he was saying, you're nobody to me. Calculated to dismiss Edwards, it merely gave John the opening he'd been waiting for - yes, let's talk Congressional records - and Big Dick never rebounded. "Thanks for your nice words about my family. I need a nitroglycerin pill. Can we go home now?"

The Senator touched on everything I was hoping to hear except on the malpractice/liability insurance issue. It is NOT lawsuits driving up these costs, but the losses that major insurers have suffered in the stock market (thanks to Bush/Cheney) which they pass on to their customers. Insurance companies are monsters, not victims. I would have liked to have heard that touched on last night.

Thanks for posting the link.
