An agonizing choice (note the author) |
|
BY BOB BARR Voting for president used to be so easy, at least for a conservative. There was the Republican candidate. You knew he generally stood for lower taxes, less government spending, giving fewer powers to the government, lower deficits and a zealous regard for individual privacy.
Then, there was the Democrat. You knew he generally stood for higher taxes, more government and deficit spending, and a zealous regard for civil liberties.
Now we have the election of 2004. For the first time in my voting life, the choice in the race for president isn't so clear And, among true conservatives, I'm not alone.
But the concerns for many conservative voters -- concerns that may cause them not to vote for Mr. Bush on Nov. 2 -- fall generally into three categories: fiscal, physical (as in the physical security of our nation) and freedom (as in protecting our civil liberties).Lifelong Republican Bob Barr represented parts of Cobb County and northwest Georgia in Congress from 1995 to 2003. "Bush's problem is that true conservatives remember their history. They recall that in recent years when the nation enjoyed the fruits of actual conservative fiscal and security policies, a Democrat occupied the White House and Congress was controlled by a Republican majority that actually fought for a substantive conservative agenda."
So will barr vote for Kerry or stay the hell home or hold his nose and vote for the mass murderer?

3. Bob Barr was right there... |
|
...leading the impeachment charge while the country enjoyed peace and prosperity. His culpability contributed directly to the Bush "victory", as far as I'm concerned.
I'm glad he's taking a broader view of issues these days, but I'm not rushing over to shake his hand. He has wingnut cooties all over him.

5. I think there may be a little more. |

Barr proably is more of a true conservative, albeit a rabid one. These Bushco guys are not conservatives. The ship that the conservatives thought they were on has gotten way off course. So the rats may be jumping, but it's just as much to get back to familiar waters as it is to escape the shipwreck to come. ************************* Patriot Cruise Lines brings you the most fulfilling voyage you will ever take!
First stop- the Fascist Sea! Enjoy the scenic vistas of oil drilling platforms from horizon to horizon! How many "commercial" buoys can you spot in an hour? Visit your own square meter of ocean! (Deeds on sale in the gift ship on board.)
Next stop- Mt. Ussolini! You will be chauffered through the streets of the quaint seaside village in cars we bring ashore for the journey. Notice how the workers all are cooperative and deferential! You will find no unpleasantness here! As we make our way up the side of the massive volcanic cone, we will pass through a protective layer of haze and into a harsh environment of clear air, but do not be concerned, your car is fully protected in every way against any possible danger. As we approach the summit, be prepared for a surprise not visible from below, and only accessible via Patriot Cuise Lines! A giant sculpture- but no, you must see it for yourself. A small hint- can you say 'There you go again!"?
Finally, we return to our home port via the Sea of Profitability, home of the largest floating military base on the planet. Patriot Cruise Lines is proud to be an associate sponsor of facility, Fort Schwartzeneggar, and we are privleged to be able to offer limited tours of the base, for a small extra fee.
