Is Colorado The Next Florida?
CBS) By David Paul Kuhn,
CBSNews.com Chief Political Writer

Who wins the White House may depend on an upcoming ballot initiative in Colorado. If passed, the Nov. 2 measure would split the state’s electoral votes instead of awarding them on a winner-take-all basis, which could swing the election to Democratic candidate John Kerry.

If the initiative had been in place in 2000, Al Gore would be president today. If it passes on Election Day 2004, it takes effect immediately. And in a presidential race expected to be another photo finish, as Colorado goes, so could the nation.

Maine and Nebraska partially divide their electoral votes based on state totals and winners in congressional districts. But Colorado would split all its electoral votes, based solely on the popular vote.

1. No fair! Ohio gets to be the next Florida!
And our Secretary of State is working hard for that honor, too.

Oh, it's going to be an interesting election....

4. Yeah, that's what my friends in Ohio say
Besides, Ohio has more than twice the EV's of Colorado, therefore there's twice the motivation for the GOP to do their dirty tricks.

5. I don't know if I can take another
"interesting election" like 2000. I, like many people went nuts for weeks..couldn't sleep, eat, or function.

2. There will never be................
another Florida. (Thank Jebus) There will be cheap imitations, Ohio is a sure candidate for that honor this year, but another Florida? No way! Florida has slimed it's way into the History books forever.
Any other State is a cheap Florida wannabe.

6. The entire Electoral College system is a nightmare
I hope that whoever gets elected goes for changing Constitution to popular vote. 3/4 of the states get ignored by both candidates (I live in ignored Texas). I trust Kerry to work for the elimination of Electoral College, even if he were to win the election and lose popular vote. I trust * wouldn't do it no matter what. The potential for mischief in our current system just seems to me to grow worse and worse. If I pray for anything, win or lose for our guy, I pray for a clean and decisive election. Two like Florida (or worse) could create a crisis the likes of which we've not known in our lifetimes.

7. Record number of fraudulent voter-registrations in Colorado

DENVER - With just 21 days left until an election in which every vote will count, the 9News I-Team has uncovered voter registration fraud that could cause chaos on Election Day for hundreds, possibly thousands of Colorado voters.

9News has discovered a record number of fraudulent voter-registrations across the state. Secretary of State Donetta Davidson tells 9News she is concerned about what the I-Team has uncovered and wants those responsible prosecuted. "It has just gone rampant," she told reporter Deborah Sherman in an interview Monday afternoon.

Some voter registration application forms are completely bogus. Others belong to legitimate voters, who have had one or two facts changed that could affect their registration when they show up at the polls November 2nd. Tom Stanislawski registered to vote six years ago. But this summer, someone signed him up again and changed his party affiliation. "My concern would be I'd walk in November 2nd and be unable to vote," he said.

Edit: fixed
