Talking With Morons About Media Bias.
Edited on Wed Oct-13-04 09:35 AM by CitizenRob
Have trouble talking to your conservative friend/coworker/family without hearing that tired, worn out, "liberal media" lie? Here are some quick facts to help you set the record straight.

Broadcast TV:
The Sinclair family owns 62 television stations throughout the United States. They are the largest holders of such media, and they are going to play an anti-Kerry movie that has already been debunked as a Republican propoganda piece full of lies. They have absolutely no intention of fulfilling the "equal time" requirement.

Network TV:
Let's move on to Network TV. Just last week higher-ups at CBS pulled a story, with well backed documentation and sources, that exposed the rational Bush used to go to war in Iraq as lies. CBS pulled the plug on a biographical Reagan mini-series because it protrayed the Reagan's as something other than saints. The CEO of the company that owns CBS (VIACOMM) announced that he is pro-Bush.

Cable-TV News:
-FOX News, do I really need to explain how they are biased? It's well documented in several books, and websites. CAP has examples.
-CNN moved to the right in order to recapture FOX's market share.
-MSNBC cancled the liberal Phil Donahue show (despite being the highest reated show on MSNBC) in order to put on arch-conservative Michael Savage. Once again, they moved right in order to capture back FOX TV viewers.

1. Not that CNN or MSNBC were liberal before their 'shift'
to the right.

There has NEVER been a liberal bias in the mainstream media. There has only been rethug whining when media tried to tell a truth that they didn't like.

3. The only claim they have about CNN being liberal is that
Ted Turner used to own it.

What was it, 1996 or 1997 that TT was essentially thrown out of the very business he built? I mean, it was all the stockholders and such from AOL/Time/Warner/etc who voted him off the "presidential" island, right? He hasn't had any real say in the matters of what happens even on WTBS, for pete's sake, and that's the channel that he started with and he is who it was named after!

2. Last night, some idiot on Fox was saying (re Sinclair)...
... "Such programs aired shortly before an election are nothing new. Sixty minutes has aired anti-Republican stories right before elections for every election for years now!"

Now, I don't know how one compares such a well-established NEWS program with a proven track record such as Sixty Minutes with a piece of propaganda slapped together in six weeks by a group with an avowed hatred of John Kerry, a group affiliated with Swift Boat veterans for Truth*, aired by a broadcasting company that donates 98% of its political contributions to Republicans.

I don't know how those things are comparable at all.

But then, when their only response to any evidence is "yeah, but the media is liberal", then there really is no point trying to figure it out.

(* - The use of the word "truth" in no way implies any actual truths or verifiable factual information)

4. yeah they claimed "60 Minutes" Bush pce on CBS is equivalent to 42 minute
Pukkke documentary--it amounts to giving Kerry equal time! Forget that Kerry had NOTHING to do with the CBS story, and the fact that the CBS piece was only 20 minutes, in realtime.

They are so deluded they expect us to believe int their fantasies. We can't even experience them, let alone believe them; they're FANTASIES!!!
