O'Reilly, Limbaugh et al: Public piety and hypocrisy often go together
Arriving home about 8 p.m., I'm in the habit of tuning in "The O'Reilly Factor," usually to hear the host attack the sexual degeneracy of hip-hop musicians, hypocrisy of their corporate sponsors and the American Civil Liberties Union's latest affronts to family values.

Why is it that I wasn't surprised that the Fox-TV host was hit last week with a sexual-harassment suit, complete with accounts of steamy telephone sex conversations and the apparent stimulation O'Reilly took from them?

Our most bombastic public moralists tend to have feet of clay. Sooner or later, those who sow the wind of ridicule end up reaping a whirlwind of jokes from late-night TV comics.

Rush Limbaugh, advocate of sending drug offenders up the river, admitted an addiction to painkillers. The mighty mouth of traditional values is going through his third divorce. William Bennett, author of best-selling virtue books, turned out to have a big-time gambling habit.

2. Twas ever thus...
Unfortunately, over fifty percent of Americans (and probably citizens the world over) are apparently somewhat mentally challenged and will eat that shit, even after their god with feet of clay has been publicly defrocked. (sigh)

3. Great column.
Thanks for posting it.

Frank Church and George McGovern were both voted out of the Senate in 1980. They were victims of a TV campaign by the National Conservative Political Action Committee depicting liberal senators as enemies of the American family.

Terry Dolan, head of the committee and campaign mastermind, was a closeted gay who died six years later of AIDS.

The man who took Church's seat went on to barely gain re-election: A few weeks after winning a new Senate term, he discarded a wife who suffered from a physical disability.

5. That's why I can't believe in God, if there were truly a just God, a
fair God, or a jealous God, then why would God allow His name to be used for such hypocritical exploitation by these so called Christians? I have no desire to follow such a deity of evil if their God condones such deeds. IMHO
