1. Bottom line from that article: |
"The only people he really seemed to rough up were the morality police and those who tried to put others in the shadow of their own rightness. So that’s what the Kingdom of God might look like. Effective health care, education, meaningful work, food for the hungry, care for the poor, generosity from all but especially from the rich, just systems of power, debt relief, nonviolence and peace, care for the environment, respect for all people, humility. It’s a picture of justice exercised through compassion and love. That’s the politics of Jesus."

3. Even when I was with the fundie Christians... |
...I knew that. (I was raised in fundie churches, did not choose that path as my own as an adult.) We were encouraged to read and memorize the Bible. I read it every day, completely through multiple times. And it occurred to me, a bright 12-year-old, that the Bible had a lot more to say against the rich oppressing the poor than it did almost any other topic.

4. Yes he was. And we can do a lot for our cause by reclaiming his legacy. |
I have taken to writing from the point of view of a devout Christian with a brain. The right is so easily vulnerable to attacks founded upon the gospels, the commandments, and Jesus' words.
