LTTE - Kerry Signs Stolen

My dad had his Kerry sign stolen & wrote the following LTTE of his local paper, The Mount Vernon Gazette, this week. He lives in Northern VA outside of Washington, DC

“A John Kerry for President sign has been stolen from my yard. The taking of that piece of cardboard and its wire support was an act of vandalism, trespassing and petty larceny, but, more, it represents the action of a Republican (or one of their fellow travelers) who would trespass and steal to suppress an opposing idea.

“It saddens me that such a person would be abroad on land once owned by George Washington and whose neighbor, George Mason, embodied the American determination to protect and encourage the free expression of ideas.

“I hope my neighbors, regardless of their political persuasion, will be alert in the coming days to prevent the thievery of political opinions from our front yards and that they will do their best to help preserve the right of every American to express a political idea, even for those of us who don’t own a television station.”

Here's some more from his email:

'After writing that I did a sign with a black magic marker on brown wrapping paper that said “KERRY SIGN STOLEN” and put it in the spot occupied by the first sign. Two days later that sign was missing although a new Kerry-Edwards sign I placed nearer to the house is still there. Thinking now of the barbed wire option, i.e. putting barbed wire on the wire frame and under the sign."

On the front page of the Gazette is a picture of a hand-lettered sign that says: “Notice – Sign Thieves. You sneak around stealing Kerry/Edwards signs only, but you cannot steal this election. Shame on you.”

What I'm loving about this election is how passionate and alive all us democrats are - we're fighting back, standing up for our principles, making our voices heard. I know it's because our backs are to the wall, but we ARE fighting back AND we are not alone!
