Denver Post Reluctantly Endorses Bush
http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36~8382~2484208,00.html

Typically, in the case of an incumbent, our endorsement calculation would begin this way: Are we, as Coloradans, better off today than we were four years ago?

In a word, no. Since 2001, Colorado has lost more jobs than we've gained, and the ones we've gained pay less than the ones we've lost. We pay less in taxes, but our household and medical expenses have skyrocketed. Ninety thousand of us have lost our health coverage. Washington is ringing up record deficits and sticking the next generation with the bill. In Iraq, Colorado-based military units and reserves are deployed in a hostile environment for questionable purpose and uncertain result.

<snip>

It's no secret that we part company with the president over many issues. Two glaring sore spots are his obsession to cut taxes even while piling up record deficits, and his mishandling of all things Iraq. He squandered global good will by taking a "my way or the highway" approach to matters of global warming, international law, Iraq weapons inspections and ultimately the Iraq invasion. He bows to corporate preference in matters of energy and environment, and his education funding levels leave far too many children behind.

Not much of an endorsement...

2. That's the most ridiculous endorsement I've ever read...
Edited on Sun Oct-24-04 10:51 AM by nyhuskyfan
I can't find where they came up with a single reason to vote for *. It mentions many of his blunders and slip-ups, and then at the end, it says that they believe that * can show the same leadership that Reagan showed with Gorbachev. It was a total non-sequitur. The entire article vividly described his poor leadership, and then they say they believe he can show it in a second term. Why?

They raised some good points with their "to do" lists for a second term, but what makes them think that * is going to change direction on anything if he gets re-elected? If anything, he'll be emboldened and have the attitude that America supports his way of doing things, and be even worse.

That editorial was comical.

3. My thoughts exactly...
There was more praise for Kerry than for Bush in the endorsement. I'm writing my LTTE right now.

4. Their ONLY reason to vote Bush is, "we're afraid!"
And how any moron might view Bush's record of absolute failure when it comes to security as a reason to re-elect him is just nuts. I mean, this is a newspaper for chrissakes! Don't they follow the news? Bush has arrested NO ONE. He's won NOTHING ("democratic elections" in Afghanistan is a fraud) He's losing Iraq. His claim to have killed 75% of al Qaeda is unprovable at best, and he's willingly gutted our Constitution in ordder to throw Muslims into a cell. He has produced no increased security. I don't see how anyone could endorse him along those lines. :nuke:

5. Sounds like another Plain Dealer situation

The newspaper's editors et al. want to endorse Kerry, but the publisher demands that they endorse Chimpy--so they do it as damningly as possible.

Well, they missed me--voted absentee in CO last week and didn't follow their advice!

:hi:

ON EDIT: On the same page, they endorse Ken Salazar and a whole slew of other Dems--although for some grotesque reason, they also endorse Bob Beauprez. :puke:

6. That "Endorsement" was the weakest I've seen in my entire life!
"Are we, as Coloradans, better off today than we were four years ago?

In a word, no."

Enough Said. Kerry in '04.

9. Cowards- include the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram (minor paper)
What is it with the 3-4 right-wing editorial boards that "endorse" Bush, but can't find a kind word to say about him?

Hmmm. Calling Comedy Central...

11. WTF? THAT was an endorsement?
Edited on Mon Oct-25-04 08:55 PM by DemoVet
How in the name of sweet jumping Jebus on a pogo stick can the man described in this "endorsement" be even considered to run a dogshit-scooping service, let alone the most powerful nation on earth? Have the standards for that office sunk so low that the miserable failure outlined in this tepid excuse of an editorial position STILL qualifies for his job? They pick on some chickenshit excuses to disqualify John Kerry, meanwhile managing even with faint praise to show that he's a much stronger candidate than Bush.
The screwiest thing about this is that they seem to be basing their endorsement on the hope that Bush will change in his second term. What on earth makes them think that this administration will behave any differently this time around? They lost the popular vote last time, even with that sham-moderate campaign, and still moved hard right the moment their heinies were ensconced in the seats of power. They've been tilting much harder to the right in this campaign, not even pretending to address the middle except to try to scare them with the "terra". No one attends one of their events without signing a loyalty oath. Protesters are kept well away from Caesar. The man cannot admit even the smallest error, let alone the world-class ones. He's been in a bubble since day one, and if they think they're going to penentrate that with their silly advice to listen to Colin Powell and Anthony Zinni then they're even more delusional than Bush, which says something. Jebus.

12. Okay, had two beers and read some of the posts above mine..
and I'm with Hand.....this was an "up yours" endorsement by the board...kinda passive-aggressive but I guess you do what you have to do. It might actually be better than an outright endorsement of Kerry, might actually make some people think a little.

13. "Voting for George is about as smart as playing Russian roulette ...
... but the Bush crime family has told us they'll be really pissed if we don't endorse the lil feller, and this is the best we could do without puking."

14. LATEST KERRY ENDORSEMENTS
I'm a veteran blogger, but I am new at posting here, so I cannot post a new topic.

I thought this would be the best slot for this post. I have compiled a thorough list of recent Kerry newspaper endorsements.

LATEST KERRY ENDORSEMENTS

I hope this helps whoever is compiling a list here.

Regards,
Jude
