Alaskans, wake up to Bush
By ANNA GODDUHN

There is no denying that the United States is threatened by terrorism, but how to deal with it is rather more controversial. Bush chose a war that, more than anything, has enflamed anti-American sentiment and personally enticed insurgents with quotes like "Bring 'em on." And he has the gall to joke about not being able to find weapons of mass destruction. "Those weapons of mass destruction have got to be somewhere." (Laughter and applause; http://releases.usnews wire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=27906.)
How many of our bravest died looking for those non-existent weapons? Bush has "miscalculated" many threats and still cannot identify a single mistake. But as a wartime president he deserves our faithful support? Think again
....
We know Alaska will go for Bush--oil and weapons interests are strong here--but imagine an awakening to the fraud of the oil economy, the fraud of missile defense, the fraud of the war on Iraq, the fraud of leadership that is exploiting our pain and our troops for power and profit. Imagine a bloodless revolution where the whole nation decides to take a deep breath and try to get off oil--and related warfare. The state of Alaska wouldn't have to panic. It gives us time to diversify our economy, develop sustainable resources and liquidate our oil infrastructure over decades. Of course, Alaskans would need control of oil development--for the benefit of all Alaskans rather than multinational corporations--for such an idea to work. But just imagine.

Then come back to reality, and look on the bright side: If we keep President Bush, which still seems astoundingly possible, we'll have time to impeach him.
